LooksLikeSinbad Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 I am looking for a camera to take on the boat, use at the beach/pool with the kids, etc. There are quite a few around $100. Anyone use any of these or have any other recommendations? Vivitar ViviCam 8400 Vivitar ViviCam 5399 Olympus Stylus Water 550WP A while back someone had posted some images he took with a digital point and shoot that were awesome, but I can't find the post... Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted July 1, 2009 Super User Posted July 1, 2009 I think the post you are referring to was made by fish chris and it was actually about the waterproof casing that he got for his camera and not necessarily a waterproof camera per-say. i too have been looking into getting a waterproof camera for fishing, I currently use my cellphone but I would rather not drop my new iPhone into 20ft of water. I have been looking into getting this one, was going to get it for my birthday but decided on a new Lucky Craft cranking rod http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=11030250 Quote
nateobot Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 My brother borrows an Olympus one from his work when we go on fishing trips. Those things are almost indestructible. It was silver and rated to survive up to 30' of water. If you are interested I can ask him the model number. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted July 1, 2009 Super User Posted July 1, 2009 i remember a post along time ago from a guy who fished out of a float tube and used an olympus underwater camera.... i'll see if i can find it with the search bar. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted July 1, 2009 Super User Posted July 1, 2009 Pentax Optio W20 ~ I initially purchased it a few years back to use surf fishing done exclusively at night while standing chest deep in the surf. This camera has turned out to be a very rugged unit which takes very nice photo's in ANYTHING ! (including Underwater video) Very easy - point and shoot. http://www.dpreview.com/news/0608/06080701pentaxw20.asp http://www.amazon.com/Pentax-Waterproof-Digital-Camera-Optical/dp/B000HDHAOO?tag=dogpile-20 A-Jay Quote
Bean Counter Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 I have a Olympus Stylus 1050sw that takes real good pictures and is water proof and shock proof. I paid $185 for mine but the same camera is on sale at fotoconnection.com for $151.99. Quote
Super User South FLA Posted July 7, 2009 Super User Posted July 7, 2009 I own an Olympus Stylus 790 SW that I used on my honeymoon in Hawaii, it performed great here is a pic from the pool at Fairmont Kea Lani. I really like all the featuresespecially the panoramic setting and underwater settings. If I were to buy another underwater point and shoot though it would be Canon's new PowerShot D10 I read a review on it and it beat out the Olympus, but its more than $100. Quote

I have had great luck with Newegg.com Quote
Super User burleytog Posted July 7, 2009 Super User Posted July 7, 2009 If I was buying one of these cameras, it would definitely be the new Canon. I would buy one now for the boat, but I'm going to wait for the price to drop. Quote
senko_77 Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 I have the Olympus 1050sw. If you check out Amazon, you can get some killer deals. The camera has been flawless for me and I would buy one again. Quote
