FordNFishinLover Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 Well ive always loved bluegrass. Ive seen a few small time (but very good) bands play at our church and parks and just love it. But no one in my family really listens to it and i dont know of many bands that play bluegrass. An im wanting to put some bluegrass on my ipod to listen too. So! If yall could post some of your favorite bluegrass fans and maybe videos of them so i could find some ones i like, that'd be great! Thanks Quote

bass or bass ? Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 I play upright bass and acoustic bass guitar, as well as electric bass and harmonica in my classic rock/blues/swing band. A very good bluegrass album is "Will the Circle be Unbroken "by Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and a cast of famous bluegrass musicians . More great albums; Tom T. Halls "Magnificient Music Machine" ;D; "Old and in the Way" featuring the Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia on banjo 8-). I also like Allison Kraus and Claire Lynch .I played in a bluegrass band in Pittsburgh in the late '70's . Happy fishing. Quote

Tony Trishka (Check out the "Double Banjo Bluegrass Spectacular" album) Yonder Mountain String Band David Grisman Bela Flek Definitely get yourself some Earl Scruggs if you don't have some already. Del McCoury Those are all my "go to's" as far as bluegrass goes. If you want me to upload some music for you have plenty of live stuff that is legal to freely exchange I can send you. Also check out archive.org and search Bela Flek or Yonder Mountain. Tons of live concerts from both of them are on there to stream or download. Quote

Super User Dan: Posted July 1, 2009 Super User Posted July 1, 2009 I can listen to the title track to Brother Where Art Thou, over and over. I don't think there is a title track to that movie but if you mean "Man of Constant Sorrow" then I agree. The whole soundtrack is pretty darn good. Quote
VABasser Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Gotta love a bluegrass concert outside in the summer, lounging on the grass... There's a lot of great bands out there, some well known others not so much. There's also different types/genres of bluegrass, the old timey traditional and some of the newer stuff (acid grass is a name that comes to mind) and every mix in between. A couple of the classics you need to have are Bill Monroe, Ralph Stanley and Flatt and Scruggs. Ricky Skaggs and Alison Krauss and Union Station are two very popular bands/artists. Old Crow Medicine Show and The Seldom Scene are two others that come to mind. I could keep listing them, there are a lot out there. Check out some of their music and pick your favorites. In my opinion there isn't bad bluegrass out there Quote
MattinOK Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Some of may favorites are Jim & Jesse Mac Wiseman Don Reno Ronnie Reno and the Reno Tradition Osborne Brothers Flatt & Scruggs Mr. Monroe And, Nashville Grass Quote
key chain bass guy Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 I don't know much about what constitutes good Bluegrass music, but I love the "Cold Mountain" soundtrack. Quote
