atx_newbie Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 ...under the direct supervision of the wife/girlfriend. I had a simple reason for going: my couch was broken, so I was doing a simple, quick fix requiring a couple 2x2s and a couple simpson straps. Should be a quick, cheap trip, right? Well, long story short, 2 hours and $200 later, I'm now pulling a home improvement all-nighter. There was a great sale on ceramic tile, so I'm refurbishing an old coffee table/end table set with a tile mosaic top, then probably moving on to replacing some light fixtures, etc... Quote
Super User cart7t Posted June 28, 2009 Super User Posted June 28, 2009 Always done with the supervision of a woman.. yes I consider most projects as "opportunities" to increase my tool collection. Shad_Master Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 Dude!! Home Improvement was invented by peope who don't fish Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted June 28, 2009 Super User Posted June 28, 2009 Taking my wife doesn't help, usually end up with extra projects. Went in to get a box of laminate flooring (came up two pieces short in one room) instead of one box ended up with enough to finish that room, plus two others and the hallway...... needless to say have several weekends coming up without fishing Quote

That crown molding job in the bedroom got me a compressor, a Senco finish nailer, a Bosch sliding compound miter saw, and a Rigid stand to mount it on. Quote

That's all well and good, but what will you say when she tells you she now wants crown moldings throughout the house? Then come the nicer casings around the windows and doors. Hmmmm, how 'bout some wainscotting? I like tools too, but they come with strings attached. My wife is always saying something like this, "Now that you have your (fill in the blank), you'll be able to (fill in the blank). Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted June 29, 2009 Super User Posted June 29, 2009 I suppose very few people have ever heard of the DIY monkey. Trust me. He is just as evil, if not more so, than the bait monkey. The DIY monkey is so insidious that he actually lures you away from fishing - unless your wife is out of town. Beware! Quote
Daniel A. Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 I consider most projects as "opportunities" to increase my tool collection. Absolutely. My brother-in-law hasn't figured this one out yet... Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted June 29, 2009 Super User Posted June 29, 2009 For me, it's danderous to take my wife to Home Depot or Lowe's. She walks through those doors and starts thinking of all the projects that we could do. I just tell her "that's a Winter project" and hope she falls for it. Falcon Quote
