i was at the creek the other day and found a pond with a BUNCH of hornwort, so i went back there today and got some for my tank.

i like the way it looks...much better than my old plastic plants.

I hate plastic plants man, good job with the aquarium.

What type of lighting are you using (type, watts, and spectrum)?

Took my post out... I just remember way back you made a comment saying girls were icky  ;D.  and you didn't have time for them.  I will no longer tease you for that.  Congrats.

How are they effecting the water  (Clarity, Dirtyness, O2 levels, etc)

asSam... well I don't know what to say to you  :P

well since i just put them in, there has been a lot of debris in my tank, little plant fragments and such. they are kinda clogging my filter intake and i need to clear that out.

i haven't really noticed any change in water clarity, it looks as clear as it always does. i made sure i rinsed the plants off well before i put them in.

i don't have an O2 test kit so idk what they're doing to the O2 levles, but probably increasing them. when i first had the plants in there they were covered in tiny bubbles, that have since vanished.

Wait until the snails invade your tank like locusts. You'll need to add a red ear to take care of them. BTW, plant use CO2 during daytime hours and give off O2. At night, they do the opposite. In just about every planted tank I ran, I needed to supplement with CO2 to get good growth.

my pumpkinseeds take care of that ;)

from what i've read about hornwort, its really low maintenence, and doesn't need special lighting or CO2 or fertilizer supplements. my plants have already grown a considerable amount since they've been in here :o.

Just make sure you periodically harvest the plants, not letting them overrun the tank, and crash due to nutrient depletion.  By the looks of the fish, you are doing a nice job with the tank.

That's beautiful! I've on occasion grabbed some duckweed for my tropical tank, the fish love it. And last week, I brought a lily root with some growth on it in with a bass, it's now planted, we'll see how it does. I much prefer live plants in any tank, but they do take work.
