A boat carrying 31 illegal Cubans washed ashore here in Palm Beach, Florida.  The illegals were gathered and taken to immigration.  Each illegal was greeted and given 10k to start a new life.

That exactly what I was going to post!

and I'm pretty sure the boatload had no intention of heading over to the immigration office to let them know they had arrived.   ::)

This is a left over policy ( Mind you if this is true, this is the Internet), from the cold war days. It served 2 purposes to encourage defection and embarrass Castro and it helped these "political refugees" get on their feet. This goes way back to the late 50's/early 60's. If this is true and this policy is actually still in place.

This practice of giving money that we are BORROWING from china has to stop. Illegals should be sent back - the only exception is if it involves children of naturalized citizens. Example: the polish girl that is being sent back even thoug her parents are legal.

Someone has to apply some common sense.

First off, I'd like to see proof of this story.

Second,  the Cuban Refugee Adjustment act provides permanent residency ONLY if they've been in the country for at least 1 year.

Third, the Cuban Refugee Adjustment act does NOT give 10k to anyone.

I say this story is a hoax.

That makes three of us Glenn. There was a window in there, where financial assistance was given, I do not know the specifics.

Here is link to Google Search of:Cuban refugee adjustment act of 1966\

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=cuban+refugee+adjustment+act+of+1966&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&oq=&aqi=

Don't trust the wikipedi source , there are direct links and a great paper explaining it's intent and overall effect

For those of us old enough to remember this it was a pretty intense moment in history. From the Bay of Pigs and the Missile Crisis to CIA plots of planting exploding cigars and itchy powder in the beard of Castro!! There was a plan to get as many Cuban Nationals on US soil and train them also. None of these things ever worked or panned out,.

So could I just go to a tanning salon, get a nice tan, paddle my jon boat out a couple of miles, float in and announce "no hablo Ingles" and collect my $10K?

Border patrol officials tell Fox 29, 35 Cuban immigrants, who came ashore on Palm Beach Thursday morning, will likely be able to stay in the U.S. legally under the 'Wet Foot, Dry Foot Policy', which allows Cubans who make it to shore to stay.

Cubans can stay in the Country as long as one foot reaches dry land, unlike Haitians.

Who pays for the funeral? We do.

Fox is ac credible as Wikipedia, if this story was truely generated by Fox.

Look, after the Bay Of Pigs fiasco, the government had real Truman Doctrine issues going on with CUBA, brought to the forefront with the Missile Crisis.

They had to do more than the embargo and the most cost effective thing to do was to promote people to leave Cuba. This is how we got those populations of Cubans, who became citizens here in both Miami and Jersey City. The government was trying to undermine Castro, forcing the Cubans to spend a lot of money they did not have,so they could try to stop their people from leaving. It was a different time and the Cuban issue was large from Eisenhower, through Kennedy all the way to LBJ. They were paying a lot in Viet Nam, so this was a good policy.

There was a little over a billion, paid out in various programs to these political refugees, who in the long run made some really wonderful contributions , as naturalized citizens up this way in Jersey City

Not sure if this story is true or not either, but all of the spanish signs in stores and people speaking spanish (or any other language) in public drives me crazy. I have 100% no problem with anybody of any nationality coming to this country if they do it legally and can speak english at least semi-well.

Oh, and a side note, when I went to get my permit for driving, I found out that you can take the drivers test in spanish and get a liscense. The road signs are all in English!

Like I said, I have no problem with anybody of any nationality coming to this country, almost everybody here descended from immigrants, but seriously, you have to learn the language.

I have traveled all over the world and believe me, you can recognize traffic signs no matter the language.

No matter the country of origin or the reason, I'm against illegal immigration and believe they should be deported immediately.

Anything less is a slap in the face of those millions of the millions of immigrants who went through all the red tape and BS. Not to mention, it's illegal and anything but deportation or jail simply encourages the continued inflow.

Many of us have relatives who came here from Europe, illegally and then naturalized, I guess you just slapped some of our ancestors in the puss mook :-/

By The Way: this law, from 1966 Welcomes these folks in it's language and tone, so for this group of Political Refugees I do not know if they are considered Illegal,Can someone help out on this?

Legally, they can stay as long as they make it to land. They made it to land, therefore they are legal...

So this is about a story that happened in 2007?? And obviously it's been exaggerated with the addition of the 10k claim, which is totally false.

And please stop twisting critical information.  The 'Wet Foot, Dry Foot Policy' is a modification of the Cuban Adjustment Act in that all Cubans are turned away unless they make it to U.S. soil.  Previously, if they were found at sea, they would be brought to the U.S. They still have become legal citizens a year later or be deported.

And LESS immigrants are making to the U.S. now due to the 'Wet Foot, Dry Foot Policy'

I think you guys are assuming they can stay in the country as illegal immigrants, which isn't the case.

As study has shown that Wikipedia is almost as accurate as the Encyclopedia Britannica

It is not considered a credible source, by any university, as it can be easily edited with false documentation. This is true for St.Johns, GWU,Johns Hopkins and NYU, those are the ones I know for sure. If it is not good enough for accredited and highly respected  Universities, it is not good enough for me to accept as proof of a counterpoint.

Forget Wikipedia, where do those universities stand on BR?  If they don't accept the information found on this site as reliable they should have their public funds withheld.

Yeah I'm pretty sure Dan knows this... The point is that Wikipedia can most likely be trusted.
