done Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 I work for a small company of < 20 people. Like many other companies we have been hit hard by the recession but are holding on. I was given the opportunity to see what kind of leadership we have this quarter. we get monthly bonuses on top of what i would call a good base salary based on the revenue we pull in. This quarter our owners cut their own bonuses, completely and their cut their base salary by +20% so that their employees would not get cuts in their pay or benefits. I have heard many bosses tell ya you take one for the team, do whats best for the company but have seen few willing to do the same. Our owners are really good guys, both with young kids to take care of. Anyway, with all the bad news on company leadership, I wanted to raise these guys up. They will never receive an award for it, or get put in the press, but everyone who works at my company knows where they stand. Quote
Mottfia Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 I would shake their hands if I was around to. That shows excellent character in your company's head guys. I wish a few more would get on the same page. Mottfia Quote
Super User cart7t Posted June 10, 2009 Super User Posted June 10, 2009 It's sad that leadership of that caliber is so sadly lacking in this country. I've been into management before and it sickened me to see upper level management sacrifice workers hours or benefits in order to line their own pockets with bonus money. kudo's to your bosses for doing the right thing. 8-) Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted June 10, 2009 Super User Posted June 10, 2009 The lack of that type of leadership is what got us where we are. I'm no economist, but it seems to me the lack of morals in that area is how a lot of our troubles, as a whole, started. Kudos to your company. 8-) Quote

Siebert Outdoors Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Wow, you can definately tell those bosses know how to keep up moral. Doing that little deed they did will pay off more in the long run then they gave up now. You certainly have some good bosses that see the future and not right now. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted June 10, 2009 Super User Posted June 10, 2009 If that don't work, guess who's next to cut? Employees.... My old bosses/management did the same thing...They still had to end up cutting out the entire 2nd & 3rd shift crew. Guess where i was? 2nd shift. Perhaps it was because the Auto industrial was so bad. I've been out of work for over 6 months now... Where's the change Obama? Quote
BigBassGuy Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 Those are the kind of guys who know how to run a company and I applaud them! They know that when you cut your employees salary/benefits, morale goes down. What they are doing is keeping morale up while sacrificing a little for the time being so that when the economy and company starts to rebound they don't need to worry about the employees being bitter and leaving and will hopefully have a headstart on the companies who made the employees make sacrifices. You've got a good thing there, congratulations!! Got any openings??? Quote

We are hoping we do not end up cutting staff. Most of the rest of the employees have told them, cut bonuses before staff. There comes a point though where that may be necessary. What I love about our guys is they really do care about the companies future but also the individuals that work with us. I like that they cut themselves first. Especially in this market, they could cut our pay and bonuses first..where we gonna go? Ain't nobody walking out and they know it. They still went with their pockets before ours and that was top notch imo. Quote
frogtog Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 When the owners start cutting their income it means it won't be long. Quote
