Super User flechero Posted June 8, 2009 Super User Posted June 8, 2009 I placed an order (and paid in full) on March 23 for some tackle... it was to be made to order and "usually ships in 2-3 weeks" a few emails since (only in reply to my inquiries) one delay due to a death in family, one said will ship soon and the last few have gone unanswered. To anyone who has gone through the paypal dispute process, my questions are- is the paypal dispute worth the time and effort and can they actually charge back the seller and get my money back? Never been burned online before so this is new to me. I appreciate any relevant info. Quote
Steven Ladner Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 I haven't gone through it, but it will be worth it. Go ahead and file a dispute. I'm sure they can withdraw the money from him if he doesn't have proof of shipment and such. Quote
Big Tom Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 I don't think I can help you right now but I am going through something similar so I will let you know. I sold some video games for 120.00 shipped to someone via ebay back in February. He left me good feedback and I got my money so I thought all was well. Well, the other day I get a charge called a "chargeback fee" placed on my paypal account for 130.00. I call them about it and they said that the person that bought the games used an unauthorized paypal account and that the person who owned that account canceled payment on those games. Paypal wants me to pay them the 120.00 for the games plus an additional 10.00 for "inconveniencing" them. They said if I can provide proof that the person that bought the games received them, I will not get charged this fee. I gave them that persons name and address along with a copy of the feedback he left and they said they would try to take care of it. That was two weeks ago and I still owe them the money. So I pay for the games initially - then I sell the games after I am done - and now I have to buy them back without receiving anything in return? Makes lots of sense. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 I just got through with one. Not sure if it applies but here's my story. Ordered stuff online, used PP, got email receipt from company but no shipping email ever came. Waited about 4-5 days and sent email asking if it had been shipped,....payment was already processed. No reply. Same email sent gain 2 days later, no reply. Submitted to resolution center as I needed that $ back to reorder from someone else. Time was an issue. $ was refunded by noon the next day. PP contacts the person in question,.....in my case, that was enough, a full refund was issued, no explanation or note asking for second chance, nothing, just a new balance on my account. Overall, I was extremely satisfied with the PP service. Quote
Super User flechero Posted June 8, 2009 Author Super User Posted June 8, 2009 Wow, that's speedy. Similar, except I didn't get the email receipt but the seller verified the order in reply to one of my emails. I paid when I placed the order, he just never shipped. Thanks Quote
Super User cart7t Posted June 8, 2009 Super User Posted June 8, 2009 Yes. In the case of buyers, you've got a good case. Paypal usually rules in favor of the seller in situations like yours especially since the communication from the sellers side has been poor. Skip the dispute and go directly with a claim. The dispute option does not lead to a chargeback, a claim will. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted June 8, 2009 Super User Posted June 8, 2009 I had the pleasure of a PP dispute - No Satisfaction at all. Condensed version ~ Ordered a product on line, used PP. Order was processed and funds collected by the seller. Then I never heard from them again. After I sent several unanswered e-mails I contacted the PP dispute center. They sent e-mails to this vendor attempting a resolution. Apparently they also were not answered either. So, PP did nothing else, they did not refund me any $$$ they just left me hanging. The whole thing was frustrating. This incident remains "open" and unresolved in my PP account and despite repeated and fairly aggressive attempts to just make the whole foolish thing disappear - It remains on my account. this was 2 years ago - Just makes me shake my head and make a face sort of like this - Good Luck A-Jay Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted June 8, 2009 Super User Posted June 8, 2009 It happened to me once on eBay. I paid for the rod, a month and a half later, no rod. I filed a claim after several emails (10) to the seller. He always had an excuse on why the rod wasn't sent. I received my money back in full from the seller after filing the claim. This was the only bad experience I have ever had through eBay. Quote
CSB Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Ive only filed a claim once with Paypal and the seller ended up shipping the item after about a month of runaround. If I were you Id just do the claim ASAP. Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted June 8, 2009 Super User Posted June 8, 2009 id cancel payment through credit card and keep paypal out of the picture.. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted June 8, 2009 Super User Posted June 8, 2009 My experience, I ordered some computer anti-virus crap and paid with PayPal. The advertisement said the product was $9.99. I downloaded everything and afterwards learned the company charged my paypal $49.99 and the stuff they sold me sucked and didn't do as advertised. A week later I followed the instructions for the Paypal resolution center and within a couple days I had a 100% refund from the company that sold me the crap. I never had to e-mail anyone or talk to anyone. It was Very easy. Quote

I think as long as u sent them and got money its not in your hands no more .Its there responsibility at this point espeacilly if they say he used a stolen account this aint your problem Quote

This was the only bad experience I have ever had through eBay. I know the seller Blaine. I bought from him too. Bought 3 All Star Titaniums. 2 weeks later no rods. A few days after buying those first 3, I bought another 3 in a seperate buy it now listing. Those actually got to my house in a reasonable amount of time. I complained about the first 3. He finally sends me rods. 5 rods I didn't even order. I contacted the seller and told him of the mistake, said I'd keep the second set of 5 rods. ( I wound up selling all of them at a decent profit). He made a deal and sold me those for dirt cheap. Made excuses about himself being in the hospital and his wife was in charge of shipping his ebay stuff. Bla, bla bla. I finally got the first set of 3 rods about a month late. I got such a great deal on the rods in the first place, which was made better by his cutting the price on the 5 rods that I could hardly complain. his ebay handle is something like nicech209 or something like that. RobbyZ5001 Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 in general, i'd call paypal's service (and 'protections') ; GARBAGE. Condensed. Large Order. Paypal Clears Payment. I ship goods. Two days later, paypal takes the money back and tells me the account 'needs to be updated'. Luckily, it was a longtime customer who just changed bank accounts on the paypal account and hadn't verified, yet. Why would they tell me to ship????????? Paypal stinks. b I agree. It is def. great for buyers and awful for sellers. I got screwed out of a few hundred dollars through all my experiences. I used to not add delivery confirmation which to paypal is the golden unicorn of shipping options. If the buyer says they didn't get it and you don't have the golden unicorn you get screwed. I even copied a receipt from the post office showing the shipping info and they still decided to take money from me. I hate paypal dispute. Quote
nick76 Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 I have never had a dispute with paypal, but if you purchased with a credit card or a debit card you may have other options. If you paid with a credit card you have consumer protections.....you will have to fill out the paperwork and follow up, but you should get your money back. If you used a debit card you may have some protection as well, it all depends on the bank. I recommend that if you are buying anything online pay with a cedit card. If your bank card has the option of paying either credit or debit always use the credit. You have more protection that way. Bought a camera lens a few months back, they used the old bait and switch on me. The lens was broke when I got it, they refused to ship the correct one without charging me more money and then wanted to charge me if I returned the whole thing for a refund. I sent it back with return receipt and then filed a complaint with my bank since I used my visa check card. One week later I was refunded the entire amount plus shipping to return the product. P.S. Why would you ever ship something without verification of delivery. For the headache you would get it is more than worth the cost. Quote
Super User flechero Posted June 9, 2009 Author Super User Posted June 9, 2009 I just got an email saying the items have shipped. Quote

Super User cart7t Posted June 10, 2009 Super User Posted June 10, 2009 I just got an email saying the items have shipped. Good for you. I hope. I just got off the phone with Ebay myself. A seller on their with 100% feedback was selling reels and some other stuff at incredible prices. I spent around $1100 for 11 reels. Then nothing. From June 1 till just a few days ago this guy was selling stuff left and right. Within the past few days his feedback went from 100% satisfied customers to mud. 60 some odd negatives from people who didn't receive the merchandise nor even get any correspondence indicating when it would be shipped. Either his account was hijacked or this guy spent his 6 months on ebay setting up for this scam. Anyway, his account was ended. I called ebay. They put me straight through to the resolution center. Within 10 minutes I had my entire $1100 + refunded. I can't complain. Quote
