JCrzy4Bass Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 Do you guys trim the skirt on the A-Jig? I saw how long the skirts are and decided to try trimming mine a little so the action of my trailer is not negated. Just curious as to if you guys are doing the same or if you find the longer skirt works well and you just need a larger trailer chunk like a zoom chunk. I love the 1/2oz version of the A-Jig so far. Boo Yah Boo Jigs were my prime jigs up til' now but I think I may add a couple of these to my tackle box since they are a bit more expensive at 3.50 a pop. Caught my first fish on it today on my first cast with it. Small, but felt good. Quote
billbrum Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 Yeah I trim the skirt on every jig that I throw. Quote
bkoguy07 Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 Yeah normally I have been trimming them like right below the hook and then the weed guard, how far do ya'll trim them?? Quote
tyrius. Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 You'll find a mixture of trimmers and non-trimmers. I personally don't trim the skirts. If I wanted a smaller presentation, I'd tie on a finesse jig. I'm trying to fish for the bigger class fish so I want to throw a beefier bait. The skirt will not negate the action of any trailer. The caveat here is that I am most certainly not a jig expert. Bass_Fanatic Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 I am no jig master either, but I have found it useful to trim about half the strands in order to keep the bigger look, but get more action out of both the trailer and the skirt!! Just my opinion! Quote

For full size jigs I typically use something like a chigger craw as the trailer. It is much longer and the claws still extend past the skirt so I don't notice any negative effects. So, maybe one should put the trailer on and then trim the skirt to ensure that it does not hang too far down on the trailer. Quote
Super User Catt Posted June 19, 2008 Super User Posted June 19, 2008 How does one determine? If a bass likes a long skirt If a bass likes a trailer with more movement If a bass likes a short skirt If a bass likes a double skirted jig If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you always got Quote
