Eddie Munster Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 My wife and I were watching T.V. the other night and I switched over to the Lakers game during a commercial. She asked me what the heck are you doing? You hate pro basketball. I told her I just wanted to see the Lakers lose because I don't care for Kobe..... LeBron James is better IMO..... Quote

Bassboy15 Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 Why hate Kobe? Is it because he's a good leader, good shooter, good ballhandler, good competitor...? what's not to like? Quote
CSB Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 I always refer to the Lakers as "Kobe Bryant" because there is nobody else on the team. Quote

Super User Hookemdown. Posted May 24, 2009 Super User Posted May 24, 2009 Kobe is a beast. But then again, I'm biased. Quote
Steven Ladner Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 I always refer to the Lakers as "Kobe Bryant" because there is nobody else on the team. x2, each team usually has that player that stands out over the rest, such as Kobe for the Lakers Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted May 24, 2009 Author Super User Posted May 24, 2009 There is a difference between being a standout/great player, and being a pompous, whiny, self important, ball hog with no defense or sense of team play. I sure hope it goes Cavs v Lakers, because LeBron James will lead his team to an embarassing domination of Kobe. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted May 24, 2009 Super User Posted May 24, 2009 Chauncey Billups is the man! Been a fan of his since his days as a Piston. I just hated the fact people were comparing Kobe to Jordan.Kobe ain't that much of a better player, much less should never be compared to the greatness M. Jordan was. I sure hope it goes Cavs v Lakers, because LeBron James will lead his team to an embarassing domination of Kobe. Word,I want to see the Lakers get crushed too. Quote
Steven Ladner Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 I agree, Kobe Bryant can't be compared to MJ. Theres not many players that can Quote

Hmm, I didn't know someone who was named to 8 All NBA first team defensive teams could play no defense. Being someone hard on your teammates does not make them a bad team. Generally it makes them a better one when comes to improving the team. Im not a fan of Kobe off the floor, but on the floor hes as solid as it gets. Can he be compared to MJ, definitely. Their extremely similar players. Quote
daviscw Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 The Lakers wouldn't be the Lakers without Kobe. Those that are whining probably watched Kobe drop 40 on their team. ;D Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted May 24, 2009 Author Super User Posted May 24, 2009 Alright, he must be an awesome all around player. Lets look at the 08-09 Triple Double tables. http://www.nba.com/statistics/player/DoubleD.jsp?league=00&season=22008&conf=OVERALL&position=0&splitType=9&qualified=Y&yearsExp=-1&sortOrder=7 OH! LeBron james has 7 and Kobe has 2. Quote
1inStripes Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 I didn't say Lebron sucked, but really they are two different types of players and both are at the top of the game. Only two other players can sniff their jock straps for level of play, and that D-Wade and Chris Paul. Its also a lot easier to do those kinds of things when only 5 teams in your conference have a winning record compared to 9. Quote

LeBron james has 7 and Kobe has 2. And you don't consider LeBron a ballhog? You don't consider LeBron "pompous" with his pre-game antics? I'm not saying one is better than the other, but if you hate on Kobe then you have to hate on LeBron for the exact same reasons, right? Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted May 25, 2009 Author Super User Posted May 25, 2009 He has averaged 7 assists per game! To Kobe's 4. No I do not consider him a ball hog. Look at those stats, the only thing that James is trailing in is games played. He has 29 double doubles against Kobe's 8. I think his pregame "antics" are good natured and meant to pump up the crowd. All of Kobe's antics are self serving chest pounding, just like his game play. So the numbers are pretty clear, and as for the "intangibles" I think most people would agree that Lebron's on and off court personas are much more commendable than Kobe's I mean, he hasnt even raped a teenage girl yet! Quote
CSB Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 Honestly, I just dont like watching one guy do everything. Ive always been a fan of guys like John Stockton and Steve Nash who can instinctively find open teammates and put them into position to score. I played in middle school before the rest of the kids grew taller and I didnt, and I was more focused on assists and defense than scoring points myself. Quote
Super User Catt Posted May 25, 2009 Super User Posted May 25, 2009 CP3 is a better player than Kobe Kobe ball hog, doesn't want his team mates involved in the game until he loses without them. Can Kobe be compared to MJlike the rest of the PGA compares to Tiger! Kobe aint even in the top 5 Quote

I see your point, but I bet Kobe was as quiet as LeBron at his age. LeBrons fortune and fame will get to him too. 7 assits or 4 assists, anyone who scores over 40 points in a basketball game in my opinion is a ball hog. Also, before you start throwing out stats, keep in mind Kobe is a guard, LeBron a forward. They shouldn't be expected to have matching stats. On the other hand, one would expect a guard to average more assists than a forward. Also, wouldn't it be easier to rack up your stats when you play on a team that sucks? Not saying this will happen, but did you watch Wake Forest play UNC this year? Ty Lawson #1-#3 PG in the nation got absolutely shut down by Jeff Teague. Ty had the better hype and the better stats because of the better team, but Jeff Teague made him his daddy. Quote
The_Natural Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 Self centered, egotistical, ball hog what's to like > Unfortunately, that can be said for a good number of NBA players. The NBA has more thugs than any of sport or league. All the sports related shootings or weapons charges come courtesy of the NBA. Quote
TrippyJai Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 Wrong time to criticize Kobe and calling him self centered, ball hog, etc. Maybe a few years back, but he is carrying his team on his back like James is right now. For the last many years without Shaq, he has been doing great things with the team and taking leadership in helping others. He's making a lot great plays and being unselfish with the ball, but do remember he is the go-to guy so the ball will always be in his hands. I doubt his team mates have anything bad to say about him. If you don't like him thats fine, but comparing a players stats can only go so far and doesn't really tell the story. Quote
