Greetings this Memorial Day.

My wife, Lynn and I both served this great country proudly in the United States Coast Guard.

We retired as Chief Boatswains Mates (E-7) in the summer of 2007. Collectively we had just over 42 years of active duty service. Assigned on the East Coast from Maine to South Carolina and one tour on the Great Lakes. Our primary missions were conducting Homeland Security, Search & Rescue, Federal Maritime Law Enforcement, Drug & Migrant Interdiction and Aids to Navigation. One of our more unusual assignments was, we were both Recruit Company Commanders (Drill Instructors).

Article VI of the Armed Forces Code of Conduct says "I will never forget that I am an American, fighting for freedom, responsible for my actions, and dedicated to the principles which made my country free. I will trust in my God and in the United States of America." Semper Paratus.

                 A salute to America's best

            The Way of Warriors

For the battling warrior, no crowns can award

Or take the place of his honor for the cut of his sword.

This warrior cares less for his own life in living,

Than honoring lives lost for a future worth giving.

Being defiant of evil as the meek are oppressed,

He endures conflict with pride not yielding to rest.

With steadfast direction and no fear for his harm,

Just love for the conquest adds strength to his arm.

Yet warrior dear warrior, with all the danger you see

Your heart and your honor, will live safely with me.

Fear not the last battle, you'll not face it alone,

The family of warriors will carry you home.

Was enlisted in the U.S. Air Force from 1986-1991. Was honorably discharged as a 'Buck' Sergeant in the Avionics field. Was stationed at Little Rock AFB, AR working Avionics on C-130s and went on several TDYs (temp duties) the last one being the Gulf War in 1991.

I appreciate the thought LBH/all. I also appreciate all those guys who served and those who won't be coming home.

Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must, like men, undergo the fatigue in supporting it.
