Super User Micro Posted May 15, 2009 Super User Posted May 15, 2009 I was in BPS today. I was just perusing the rods and walked past the rack that had the All Stars. Along with a bunch of GT40X rods, there are three sad looking Team All Stars that have been sitting there for two years now. Everytime I go, there are in the same spot. Today, I noticed a 4th Team All Star. This one didn't have the handle wrapped in plastic like the others. In fact, there was only a price tag hanging from it. I picked it up and the grip was turning black. You know how cork gets after it starts getting fish slime on it. There was also a nice quantity of dried blood on the grip, too. I carried it over to the counter and handed it to the man behind the counter and told him this was an obviously well-used return they stuck back on the rack. They might at least wipe the dried blood off it first before putting in a sales rack. Nice. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Probably Fourbizzes rod since he shops there so much. ;D That is gross though. Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted May 15, 2009 Super User Posted May 15, 2009 So what was the price? You should have asked for a killer deal after also telling them that there was probably no way anyone would buy that thing. Then again that would probably be a waste of breath since bass pro will have nothing to do with giving deals of any type : Quote
Super User Muddy Posted May 15, 2009 Super User Posted May 15, 2009 Hey Micro: Maybe it was one of those new rods in the catalog! ;D Quote
Super User flechero Posted May 15, 2009 Super User Posted May 15, 2009 Hey Micro: Maybe it was one of those new rods in the catalog! ;D Well played!! Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted May 15, 2009 Super User Posted May 15, 2009 Hey Micro: Maybe it was one of those new rods in the catalog! ;D Yeah, that's it. The same marketing strategy blue jean makers use. Sell beat up and ripped jeans for full price. Quote
TrippyJai Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 The same rods thats been sitting there for 4 years. Nice...!! Quote
Super User Micro Posted May 17, 2009 Author Super User Posted May 17, 2009 I went back this evening and they've stuck it back out on the rack. They did wipe the blood off. Quote
Super User Sam Posted May 17, 2009 Super User Posted May 17, 2009 Micro, do you think someone brought it into the store and then switched it out for a new one??? I was in the Hampton store this week and BPS had jeans on sale for $11.99. None in my size. That was a surprise, too. Quote

I was in the Hampton store this week and BPS had jeans on sale for $11.99. None in my size. That was a surprise, too. Beats me. There have been 3 TAS rods on the rack for at least two years now. Those are still there. Now this one makes it 4. The other 3 are new - still have cellophane around the handles with factory tags. This "new" rod is clearly used. The cellophane is gone, the cork is stating to blacken, and the shaft has smears on it. Clearly, someone returned a used rod and BPS made up a tag for it and set it back out for sale. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted May 17, 2009 Super User Posted May 17, 2009 Must be Allstars new "Broken in" line of rods. I'm personally not surprised at anything from them since the buyout. Another good company being shoved down the drain. Quote
Super User Sam Posted May 17, 2009 Super User Posted May 17, 2009 Micro, I do not think that is legal in Virginia. Selling used goods as new goods is not legal. Not that I want you to get BPS or their employees in trouble, but I do think you need to speak with the store manager about it. > Quote

Super User Sam Posted May 17, 2009 Super User Posted May 17, 2009 Right. The manufacturer is not in the picture. BPS is the culprit in this story. Maybe if you speak to the manager you can buy the rod at a big discount. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted May 17, 2009 Super User Posted May 17, 2009 I really don't keep up on who buys/sells what, so could you enlighten me on who bought BPS..?
