RW, if I wanted a cookie cutter car that just goes then the choices you have shown would do just fine. If I want something that has a little character then I'll go for the big 3. I consider myself an automotive enthusiest and base my opinions on more than just fuel mileage and a good a/c.

Edit: The Granada may have not been the most popular car on earth but it was a basic car that would last forever IF you took decent care of it.  I can gaurantee that it would outlast just about any foreign car from that era.  ;)

You know,  I like the new camaro, but I think they didn't go quite retro enough on it.  I've always thought that if you changed up the grill, the new Dodge challenger looks more like an old camaro.

I don't think so...My last Ford was a 1976 Granda, among the worst

vehicles ever built. The same could be said for the final run of the original

Jeep Wagoneer, my last "domestic. I'm glad Chrysler is bankrupt, GM's

pending demise and hope to see Ford follow suit soon.

I own two Toyotas and two Nissan. Previously, three Volvos and a

Honda CRV. I will never buy another of the old "Big Three".

BTW, three of my four "foreign" cars were built in the USA, my Nissan

here in Tennessee.

And people wonder why our economy is in the toilet. BTW how much of the money spent on a domestic built foreign car do you think stays in the USA? American cars are just as safe and economical as foreign cars and help our country's economy. Buy American. Buy union. Save a nation.

How much of the money spent on a "domestic" car that is made in Canada/Mexico stays there?

Should have done your homework back then and bought the SHIMNANO's of the automobile industry.

I'm sorry to see any company go bankrupt, the loss of jobs ripple thru the entire economy, this week over 2000 auto dealers are being notified they will no longer be handling certain brands, I'm sure some on this forum will be affected. I drove Cadillacs and Lincoln's and had one negative experience on 1984 mark, easily corrected.

If these companies survive the quality control will be top notch

How many Granada's do you see on the road today?

I guess not one single owner took care of them?

They were Ford's disposable cars, you drove them 50,000 miles disposed of it and bought another.

The reason our economy is in the toilet has little to do with what country your car comes from. How much money stays in the USA from foreign auto manufacturers? Well, lets take a look at a hypothetical scenario. Say foreign company X spends $50 billion to build a plant in America, hire American workers, and purchase parts from US based suppliers, and shows a profit of $10 billion (which is a superfluous figure to say the least). Seems quite a bit is being pumped into the US economy, quite a bit more than what is being taken out especially since most companies are looking to reinvest profits in order to expand.

Saving a nation doesnt involve buying a big three automobile, rather it involves choosing to not elect officials who cut taxes and then borrow from foreign investors to make up for the loss of revenue, all the while increasing spending.

By the way, that Camaro is uglier than a mud fence and bares striking resemblance to the Mustang  ;D

People keep saying buy american big 3 so the money stays in the US. After all of the concessions and tax money given to GM, take a quick guess as to were production is being increased.....not inside the US....

The "Buy USA" was nothing more than a marketing scheme, the whole time they said this jobs were moved outside the US. If you want to argue it was an American company, do you really think its fair the average worker lost their job will the high ups at HQ made big money?

Now that my little rant is over, there are multiple domestic cars I would own if I could afford another vehicles. But to just blindly blame non-US car companies for doing better or complaining about people buying non-USA doesn't do anyone any justice. The world is a different place, its a worldwide market. Compete worldwide or you lose.

Is being on the brink of disaster what it takes for them to wake up ? Cut me a break. Most of corporate America could give two ***ts about this country. Look at the rampant outsourcing, among other questionable behaviour on their behalf over the past 25 years.

It cracks me up that these "free market captains of industry" who, when times were good, railed against (and rightly so) any government intrusion into their business, only to show up in Washington with their hands out now that they're facing extinction.

This ain't no mustang thread.

Didn't think it was a drag racing thread either. And uh....you didn't change my mind about the Mustang. I like both, the Camaro and Mustang.....I am allowed to do that, right?

Look guys, I guess y'all think my comment was directed at you two. It wasn't. It was directed at the people who want to derail the thread with all the political/economy/US/Japan crap.

I like a good Camaro vs. Mustang debate minus all the other stuff.

Yeah Brent, I wasn't saying the Camaro wouldn't out run a Mustang. I was just saying I like them both. I'm not a much of a performance car guy. I am a sucker for the eye candy though.  :)

I can say iam a ford fan. But thank god that mustang was just a concept car. The newer one looks almost the same to last years model. The only differnce is the rear and front. But out off all of them I would want the challenger. I have seen it up close and personal. I use to work at a dodge dealer ship there nice cars. But iam not into 1/4 mile times. I would want a car that can do two things. Go fast and take turns fast. I have never been on a drag strip. I have been to a few time attack tracks. Thats a whole lot more fun to me. Ford has the Shelby that can handle turns, and dodge has the srt model challenger that can handle. But for the prices there going for new I could buy a porsche or a bmw. And I know any of them could out handle them cars.
