Super User Long Mike Posted April 26, 2009 Super User Posted April 26, 2009 A tempest in a teacup. It's been a slow news week-end, so the media are on this like stink on a turd. By next week-end it will be a non-issue. Quote
Super User Tin Posted April 26, 2009 Author Super User Posted April 26, 2009 Yup, and people are sick of hearing about the economy. A top story from Thursday that made the first 5 minutes of local news was that the mayor of Providence had his "Earth Friendly" Chevy Tahoe Hybrid keyed outside of his office. : Quote

Super User SirSnookalot Posted April 27, 2009 Super User Posted April 27, 2009 I agree, we need to eliminate the EPA. I just loved the taste of toxic chemical run off in our lakes and streams, sure improved the taste of walleye. Remember the days when we picked soot out of our teeth due to air pollution from factory stack emissions, COPD it's no big deal, fond memories of Newark New Jersey. No need to worry about unbiodegradable garbage in our land fills, we've acres of land to build new ones right near your favorite lakes, the stench is breathtaking, or just barge them out into international waters, crabs & lobsters are scavengers anyway. Cafe standards and hybrid vehicles, who needs it, I can easily afford $4.00 a gallon getting 8-10 mpg. If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem. Quote
Super User South FLA Posted April 27, 2009 Super User Posted April 27, 2009 I would agree the media tends to blow things out of proportion. Also, government agencies are stuck between a rock and a hard place, if they don't react and something tragic happens they are held accountable, if they overreact and cause us to panic then they have a "crisis." Anyway here is one Australian's opinion: http://health.asiaone.com/Health/News/Story/A1Story20090427-137824.html Quote
Eddie Munster Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 With Mexico circling the drain, who will build our houses in the U.S.? Quote

Super User Muddy Posted April 27, 2009 Super User Posted April 27, 2009 For those of you too young to remember: 1957: Asian Flu Pandemic 70,000 dead Newspapers filled with stories WHY ISNT ANYONE DOING ANYTHING 1997-1998: New Strain of said Virus ;Pandemic, US does not suffer as much as the rest of the world Why: Vaccines, Good Response and excellent preventive measures The Administration has made an official announcement that this Swine Flu is to be paid attention to, but it is not cause for widespread panic; Why: We can contain and it is important that all municipalities ID and contain INFECTED PODS in order to prevent this pandemic from running way with us Do you all prefer we go back to 57, keep our heads in the sand or would you rather the ANTI PANDEMIC machinations be put into effect????? The Asian Flu was linked to poultry ,yet that virus mutated to use humans as hosts. This one comes from a more closely 'human' reservoir Pigs, and with mass transportation ( migrant workers on the move North and US Vacation Seekers going South and returning) the risk is great for intercontinental spread. The bad economy may slow this down some what The problem is that these bugs latch onto RNA and DNA material inside the host's mitochondria. So if you kill the virus you kill the host in some instances. Their sheer numbers and rapidity of their reproductive cycles really present a lot of mutations also.\ Pandemics can be deadly, and the history of humanity is littered with them Quote
Super User Muddy Posted April 28, 2009 Super User Posted April 28, 2009 Still think it's much ado about nothing? These guys don't react or answer to the media: In Geneva, the World Health Organization issued a phase 4 alert - the first time it has raised the pandemic threat level since the system was established in 1999. Level 4 means sustained human-to-human transmission has begun and containment is no longer possible. Five means the virus is widespread, and phase 6 is a full-blown global pandemiccolor Quote
Super User Sam Posted April 28, 2009 Super User Posted April 28, 2009 I am going to get a nice bar-b-q pork sandwich for lunch today in honor of the swine flu. Of course, don't mess around with any flu, especially if you are over the age of 19. Older people don't do well with the flu. Rest, drink plenty of liquids, stay home and watch fishing DVDs. Swine flu is contagious up to seven (7) days after you contract it so you have a high probability of getting it via normal daily activities. Fish cannot get the flu so my advice is for everyone to go fishing until the pandemic ends. ;D ;D ;D Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted April 28, 2009 Super User Posted April 28, 2009 I think I'll just get drunk. Quote
