Question for you wine drinkers

Getting married may 16th,I would like to get a bottle of wine for us on our honeymoon.

Plain and simple,my girl doesn't drink much at all.She likes those flavored wine coolers once in a great while "if" she does drink.Nothing strong,prefer something sweet and tasty for a non  alcoholic drinker ...Just something to set the mood a little bit.

I'm trying to keep the cost down to around $20 or so for the bottle.

Thanks for any information or advice....I don't drink wine either so i know nothing about wine as well.

Do you and she have a preference for red or white wine?  Being that you're not much of a wine drinker, and want something "sweet" but not heavy, I'd suggest Reisling, which is white wine.  But if you prefer red, then a Pinot will work just fine, although it's not as sweet.  I'll suggest a brand when I know red or white.

Two suggestions:

1)  Prosecco is an Italian sparkling wine, almost like champagne, but not quite as bubbly and much smoother tasting.  Good bottles can be had for $10-15.

2)  Vinho Verde, a Portuguese wine, is very good, and pretty cheap.  It's also slightly bubbly, but not much at all.  Very light, crisp, and tasty.  My favorite label of this grape is Casal Garcia, though it's kind of tough to find.  If you have a Whole Foods near you, they'll have it for $7-9 a bottle (so you can get two--and believe me, you'll want two  ;D ;D )

* Note: if you choose a German wine, make sure that the label doesn't say "trocken", which means dry (the dryer the wine, the less sweet it is).

Keep in mind these are very sweet wines, per your request. Probably not good paired with dinner. But it's all a matter of taste. If you drink Coke with your dinner all the time, then you'll love it.

I think Glenn has pointed you in the right direction with Rieslings.  My wife is not big on drier wines so I turned her on to this stuff and she loves it.  Of course, when we go out for a really nice meal we will drink the recommended type of complementary wine.  I recommend Columbia Winery Cellarmaster Riesling at $12.00 a bottle.  It is as good or better than some 20 dollar Rieslings and it's made in the state of Washington.

Whoops, I somehow named the correct Washington wines, but labeled them "California". my mistake.

Price isn't always a key indicator of a good wine.  Don't assume the higher the price, the better the wine.  Any of the Washington wines I listed will do you just fine, and will probably cost less than the German wines.  I haven't tried the Cellarmaster wine, so I can't comment on it.

My wife doesn't drink wine very often at all.  She likes Rieslings and Pinot Grigio.  

I can ask her for specific brands if you like.  I know she has tried a few and is pretty picky because once in a while she comes across a dry or "oakey" one and won't drink it.

Glenn has pointed you in the right directions for something light and sweet.  If you are looking for something to drink more for desert and have it super sweet then try an Ice Wine.  There are many and they are insanely sweet to the tongue.  I would adivse to stay away from anything red at this point.  If she is not into drinking that much and has not really said she can take the acidity from red wine they please avoid.  My wife is not a red wine drinker and will drink Riessling like it is going out of style.  Best of luck and enjoy the honeymoon.

wow, i would never drink it now .... and only did in the past bc well, at the time i did have it ....i was well, in middle school....

now that i have a choice in what i drink, well its anything but wine to say the least..

and the franzia pic is freakn' great!!! (my old roommate use to inhale that crap as well)
