ejtaylor822 Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 The best match was the first with Cane vs. Cantwell. Wimen vs. Stout was a decent match. Silva vs. Laettes is putting me to sleep. There are some good exchanges but 90% of the match is them bouncing around the ring or Silva staring at Laettes on his back. Most boring main event title match ever. I always DVR these and watch them a couple more times - the good fights anyway - just deleted this one. What a waste. Quote
CFFF 1.5 Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 the Silva Laettes fight was very disapointing. What was Laettes doing falling down and trying to get Silva to pull guard everytime Laettes would take some shots. Laettes is not even in the same league as Silva. Laettes is so bad he shouldn't be able to fight in the UFC anymore. Quote
Super Bassmaster Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 it was a horrible main event! and i was dissapointed in the iceman. I don't understand! you would think that your retiring soon and would want to put on a good show for your fans! i didnt agree with the dicision on the mat wieman and sam atout fight. wieman should of won. im not even going to start on the main event, it speaks for itself > Quote
Fish Chris Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Man, you beat me to it ! I came over here just to talk garbage about last nights fights ! :-( Really disapointing. But now, I purposely skipped the last PPV, and the one before that wasn't great, IMO either :-( What the heck is up with UFC lately ??? The last really good edge-of-my-seat fights I saw, were the free "Fight for the Troops" a few months back. For the last few years I had really been getting into UFC's a lot. But lately, my interest is starting to fade. I can't quite put my finger on it, but it just seems to me that too many of these guys are not fighting to win.... but rather, fighting not to lose. I think they need some kind of better incentive to let it all out there, and take more risks. As it is, they just seem to be playing it safe, way too often. Hmmmm..... Fish PS, I think the most fun we had, was joking about the 'Tale of the Tape' for Antoni Hardonk Strong points..... Devastating from behind ! ;D ;D ;D Quote
ejtaylor822 Posted April 19, 2009 Author Posted April 19, 2009 OK, so it wasn't just me. That was pretty bad. Agree, the last few UFC's have not been that good. Silva looked like he was doing just enough, and no more, to get a decision. He said in the interview that Laettes wouldn't challenge him so he couldn't fight. Pfffft. Get in there and go after him! I love TUF and enjoying the start of this season with USA vs. the Brits. Love Bisping and Henderson and think the USA better come ready. The Brits are looking for a fight. But, the rest of the UFC, well.... :-/ I have gotten to where I really enjoy the WEC matches. These guys come prepared to challenge and win. Trying to make a name for themselves and they go all out. Some really good matches and appears to be a little better parity. Eddie Quote
CFFF 1.5 Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 I understand Silva not going after him, but you can only chase a guy around the ring for so long. Leites kept falling to his back everytime Silva started to throw some flurry of punches. I think Leites looked like a real idiot and I think Dana White should have a talk with Leites about this fight. If Leites didn't want to fight he shouldn't have taken the fight. For anyone that has fought before it is hard to fight someone that doesn't want to fight. Quote

Fishin Phil Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 . I think they need some kind of better incentive to let it all out there, and take more risks. As it is, they just seem to be playing it safe, way too often. Back in the days of Pride FC they would issue yellow cards for inactivity. Each one took 10% of the fighters purse. They should do something similar. As far as A. Silva goes I personally think he was sending a message to Dana White. You want an exciting fight, you better open up your wallet. Fighter's salaries have been a big issue and you can't exactly just cut the champ from the line up. Quote
Little Luey Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 I was thinking about getting the pay-per-view but I am glad I didn't. Quote

Up until the point he got caught it was turning out to be the fight of the night. Liddell is 39 years old and shoulda hung up his gloves after gotting KOed by Rashad Evans. Silva will destroy worthy oppenents and look like a slacker with lesser fighters I think he only puts out the effort needed for the win lately. The whole card blew and should have been a freebie on Spike. Quote
TrippyJai Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Why do you want a refund? Sometimes you get good events, some times they don't turn out as good. That's how it is. Most fans just want to see a KO, but I really enjoy all aspects to game as a hardcore MMA fan. The last fight wasn't that great I agree, but the rest of the fights were pretty good. No one should be complaining except those who paid 5k for floor seats. I would be upset too. Chuck still has two fights left in his contract and I wouldn't mind watching him again even if he loses his last 2. He done enough for this sport. Anderson Silva needs to change his game plan. It's not that he is unmotivated to fight, he's just a counter attacker and always has been. Up until Cote, every single opponent was being the aggressor and he picked them apart. People now know not to rush in as Silva keeps his hands low because 1 mistake = fights over. The only people I see beating Silva is Maia if he takes Silva down, it's over. This guy can submit anyone in the world, but he might die standing up, lol. Winner of Hendo/Bisping, but Bisping is overrated, they just want him to win because he's the UK market man. Hendo can't hang 5 rounds, I see him gasing so yeah. Would like to see Nate rematch and even Vitor if he ever makes it back to the UFC. Quote
deadeye32. Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 sounds like Silva is going to fight one of the elite light heavyweights next. He better get his killer instinct back if he is gonna get Rampage or somebody of that caliber. Quote

Most likely not. He weights 220 ish before his weight cut to 185 and dropping to 170 is exhausting and dangerous. That is why he tested his skills at 205 with James Irvin. If he does fight GSP. GSP can make 185 because that's his weight in the Octagon the next day after weighing in at 170 is like 189 or so. He is a really big welterweight. They might do a catch-weight like Wandi and Rich. 175-180 maybe? Quote
BigJohnny Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 I wouldn't mind seeing GSP v Silva, but I think he will likely go up to 205. It's the most stacked division in the UFC. Quote
Crabcakes Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Silva has fought at 170 earlier in his career but it has been awhile so the cut might be hard for him now. If they were to fight I'd guess GSP would go up to 185 rather than Silva going down to 170. Silva actually came in at 182 for this fight which makes me think he was either sick or did that on purpose because he thinks a lighter weight is better for him. The main event was bad but the card was ok. I think matchmaking was a bit of an issue. Leites was scared to stand but couldn't get the fight to the ground so he flopped. Silva wasn't going to just jump in his guard... so you got a boring fight. Silva could have spent less time punching him in the leg and more time trying to finish though. He had Leites outclassed and should have finished the fight. Mizugaki vs. Torres and Condit vs. Kampmann were pretty good so I can't get too upset about it Quote
