Super User Micro Posted April 15, 2009 Super User Posted April 15, 2009 (Not a religious discussion, just a talk about the artists in the genre.) I'm not much into gospel music. But growing up, my mom would sing it to herself and I would listen and I always loved the old time songs. There's few that do it really well. This guy, Buddy Greene, a rather unassuming looking character, is one who does. I could listen to this guy all day. If you like gospel (and even if you don't) this guy is worth a listen. His harmonica skills are incredible. Some selected Youtube videos (he starts slow, but give him time...) Shall We gather At the River Quote
Fisher of Men Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 I listen to contemporary Christian and some gospel (mostly southern gospel). Thanks for sharing. He's blessed with a fine talent. And, yes, there's something to be said about the old hymns. We still sing them in our church. I get alot of relatives of church members who compliment us on still singing them. Alot of "mega churches" have abandoned them for modern worship songs. Quote
Super User Catt Posted April 15, 2009 Super User Posted April 15, 2009 I listen to a lot of gospel music, not much on this new stuff; if y'all ever get a chance listen to Reggie Payte Quote

I looked them up, and yup! they are Christian rock. As "Gospel" = "Good News" I guess anyone singing about the "Good News" would = "Gospel". I'm just taking a shot though. Quote

I guess it's kind of like heavy metal Christian :-?. Some of the kids at church listen to it. The kids tell me they are singing about Christ and God. I tell them I don't care if God is on bass and Christ is on drums..., TURN IT DOWN! ;D Quote

There are some really good Christian rock artists out there. Some are a little too heavy for my tastes (metal and screamo), but it will allow kids to hear a positive message that they otherwise may never hear. Quote
Super User Catt Posted April 21, 2009 Super User Posted April 21, 2009 I do not like Christian entertainers regardless of age Quote

I just didn't understand what he was saying ;D Quote

Anyway regards to Heavy Metal/ screamo music. They can play it all they want just keep it down, that's all I ask. Quote
