Olebiker Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 I have never played golf and don't have any desire to do so, but I thoroughly enjoy watching The Masters. I spent most of the afternoon at my daughter's house sitting in the recliner, watching the big screen HD TV and rocking my five month old granddaughter while the rest of the family cooked Easter dinner. When Tiger hit that shot into the woods and then hit a pine tree trying to get out, I figured that maybe he was mortal after all. But then the sucker saved par after all that. . . Quote
Super User burleytog Posted April 13, 2009 Super User Posted April 13, 2009 HD makes all the difference in the world. I was at the in-law's yesterday, all they've got is a 27" RCA. It was a bit hard to watch. Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted April 13, 2009 Super User Posted April 13, 2009 Hate to say this, but it was almost exciting the last few holes. When Woods and Mickelson made there "almost" combacks things got interesting. When they started sliding I was rooting for Perry. Between him, Chapman, and Cabrera they sure kept things tight. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted April 13, 2009 Super User Posted April 13, 2009 I am a golfer and I love watching all the majors. This one was quite interesting. I go back aways, long before Tiger Woods and yes he is phenomenal, if not they greatest player ever, he soon will be. But I have lost a lot of respect for him. He is by far not the greatest champion, much like Hogan. He has a killer instinct but does not know how to lose graciously, like Nicklaus, Watson, Player and Palmer just to name a few. Nicklaus in defeat would always praise the winning opponent, slap him on the rump, give him a hug and make him feel special. His rivals, Watson, Player, Palmer and even Trevino become some of his closest friends off the course, he was respected. Woods will never be the champion that Nicklaus is. I'm hoping his majors record stands until the next young phenom comes along. Quote
Super User Root beer Posted April 13, 2009 Super User Posted April 13, 2009 I enjoyed watching Mickleson play. He had one shot sitting on edge of pine and nearly had an eagle from 100 some yards away from the green. Unbelievable. Then he had another shot deep into the pines and still manage put it near the green. These guys are not mortal. Quote
Eddie Munster Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 It was an exciting final round up until the end. Watching Woods and Phil trade shots was great but Phil is Phil (he will choke right after you start rooting for him) and Tiger just wasn't Tiger this week. Seeing it won by the others choking it away was anti-climatic. Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted April 13, 2009 Super User Posted April 13, 2009 Me, I'm checking out the water in the ponds. I swear a couple of times I saw some swirls. Hmmmm.......... Quote

Glad I am wasn't the only one looking. Yes, I saw the swirls as well. Was a great tournament. The playoff was great. Was really hoping Perry would win it. Would have been great to see him at the derby in a few weeks wearing a green jacket. Got to go the practice rounds and Par 3 tournament a few years ago. Most amazing thing ever seen. First pro I saw tee off was John Daly. Amazing. On the was down a buddy of mine who had been before told us in the car that he would give each of us a dollar for every weed we found on the course. We looked and didn't find a thing. Anywhere. Most incredible patch of earth I have ever seen. OleBiker, sounds like a great day for you. Recliner, Masters and a baby in the arms. Very happy for you. Super User 5bass Posted April 14, 2009 Super User Posted April 14, 2009 I agree, Tiger is a sore loser at times. Great player no doubt but when he has a bad or even a semi bad round, he cant control his temper/emotions. Some say it's due to him being so competitive and it could be, but role models need to have a little more composure than what he displayed. He did several things yesterday that put his true character in question. (spit on a green, knocked over his bag with a club after a bad shot, totally ignored a kid wanting an autograph after the tournament, declined any and all interviews) Sure, everybody has bad days but when you're in the spotlight like he is, you have to "keep it together". Tiger has the mental game that most of the other PGA Tour players can only wish to have, he just lacks the control of his emotions sometimes and sadly, it's very easy to see. Quote
1inStripes Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 Tiger was interviewed live just after turning in his scorecard. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted April 14, 2009 Super User Posted April 14, 2009 Tiger was interviewed live just after turning in his scorecard Bill Macatee had a very brief interview after Woods signed his scorecard. Phil and Tiger put a great show on, but starting 7 strokes back is a very tall order. Phils demise was his double bogey on the par 3, he lost his momentum. I believe one of the statistics quoted was 17 of the last 18 winners came from the final pairing. Quote

Al I could think of was nice fish. I'm probably the only guy who would ever break in to the Master's grounds after dark to fish the ponds! Quote
