Tokyo Tony Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Annuity Operations for a large insurance company. Would like to start my own business within the next few years (non-insurance business). I have a few ideas brewing... Quote
I.rar Posted March 3, 2009 Author Posted March 3, 2009 well , this kinda took off. ive come to the point where i absolutly do not want to go to work at all. but i have bills to pay , so i have to. also , my back and knees have been acting up and at 22 years old , so i think i need to find a less physical job before it gets worse. lifting lawn mowers and propane grills over my head gets very old very quick. :-/ Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted March 3, 2009 Super User Posted March 3, 2009 Work smart, not hard. A cubicle job can be unhealthy also. No offense to anyone who happens to work in an office. I was just making a point to Mr. sqhertz. Quote

I was just making a point to Mr. sqhertz. lol. believe me , i do. but when it comes to unloading 600-2000 piece trucks two times a week , you can get a bit careless with the lifting skills. also , after 2.5 years of being with the company , im still part time. and whenever a position comes that i want , i always get the shaft and they give it to someone else because they dont want me to leave my current position because i do such a good job. meh. ejtaylor822 Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 IT Architect for a large NC Health Insurer. I deal with the infrastructure and platform areas: Server, storage, network, database, etc. and how it all fits (and suppose) to work together. It's OK, can be stressful and demanding but it provides pretty well for our family. bilgerat, 100% spot on, cubicles can be unhealthy - not necessarily dangerous - just unhealthy. Eddie Quote
drmnbig Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 sqhertz, do whatever you can to get into another job. I can tell you by experience that lifting your whole life will get you nothing but hurt. I spent 7 years in a Target distribution center before I finally said enough is enough. I had to take time off every few months because of my back. I've been gone for a little over 4 years and (knock on wood) I haven't taken another day off work because of my back. Good luck. You're young and something will come along. Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted March 4, 2009 Super User Posted March 4, 2009 sqhertz - I understand your position on not getting ahead because your good at what you do. Been there. If times were good, I'd tell you to quit, but jobs are hard to come by. Guess you'll have to just stick it out for now. Hopefully you'll get an oppurtunity to go where a good work ethic is appreciated. In my field when someone new comes in, if they show up everyday ready to work, that's half the battle. We have no problem sharing our skills with the younger guys, but it all depends on their attitude. Quote
