Super User Tin Posted March 24, 2009 Super User Posted March 24, 2009 I know it is a NIH study but come on.... http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/03/23/health/main4886238.shtml Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 24, 2009 Super User Posted March 24, 2009 Everyone's going to die someday. : Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted March 24, 2009 Super User Posted March 24, 2009 Too much of anything is bad for you , believe me I know. IT'S REALLY NOT BULLS**T like some of you think. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted March 24, 2009 Super User Posted March 24, 2009 You can die from eating to much of anything. I know of a guy in the Northwest that went on a Ramen Noodle diet and died in one month. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted March 24, 2009 Super User Posted March 24, 2009 I dont think I have a friend in this world that eats the 5oz of red meat per week recommended in the "study" Is it any coincidence that the gentleman first quoted in the story appears to have an Indian name? Isnt a cow sacred in that country? Just a thought... Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 I always feel like a bag of crap lately after eating red meat. Quote
Daniel My Brother Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 This is exactly why I switched to an all bacon diet. Quote
tyrius. Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 There is little doubt that this is scientifically true when talking about large groups of people. It's also been shown that people on a severely restricted calorie diet will live longer than normal. My question is why would I want to live longer if I have to give up what I like? Is it really worth an extra couple of years to restrict yourself for your entire life? Quote
Super User flechero Posted March 24, 2009 Super User Posted March 24, 2009 diets laden with red meat like hamburger and processed meats like hot dogs, bacon and cold cuts. What little I read suggested poor eating habits... not a balanced portion of meat in a decent meal. Eat a piece of fish with all the crap that accompanies what they studied and fish would be the cause of higher risk. I think regional and environmental influences are far greater. Down here, living well into your 90's isn't unusual at all. Red meat is required at almost every meal. ..lol Steak and eggs for breakfast... chicken fried steak for lunch and ribeye's on the grill for dinner isn't out of the ordinary. Red meat only = death for the cows, not people. Whoever funded that study should demand a refund. ;D Quote
MitchIsFishin Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Daniel is right, a pound of bacon per day will clear this right up. Seriously, it's called moderation. Red meat is fine, once & a while. All the time, not so much. Quote
Super User Raul Posted March 24, 2009 Super User Posted March 24, 2009 We didn 't become **** sapiens by eating veggies only :. On the other hand, due to my high cholesterol levels now I 'm on a red meat restricted diet >, not that I can 't eat red meat, I just have to cut back on the ammount and frequency so ----> chicken and fish, screw the veggies ! ( I HATE veggies ). Quote
R@ngerman195vs Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Stick a fork in me...I'm a gonner if I have to give up my steak!! ;D ;D Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted March 24, 2009 Super User Posted March 24, 2009 Remember that 80's flick "The Great Outdoors" with John Candy and Dan Ackroyd, when Ackroyd's character talked Candy into eating the 'Ol 96er', a 96 ounce steak ? ;D The deal was if he finished it all, the entire party ate free. thetr20one Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 I agree that anything in excess will eventually catch up with you but, I have canine teeth for a reason. I like steak nicely marbled and fatty bacon. Quote

Super User Catt Posted March 24, 2009 Super User Posted March 24, 2009 There are nutrients found in both plants and flesh that are necessary for the human body to stay healthy but any of these nutrients in excess will have an adverse outcome. When God calls your name he aint gonna ask what you've been eating Quote

stan150 Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 red meat wouldnt be bad for us if they would stop putting all the medicine, steroids, and all the other bs in the feed to make them grow faster so they sell them faster.also with the medicine we eat in the meat we become immune to the medicine we take . uicdent11 Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Looks like we are all going to have to start eating McDonalds's Filet-o-Fish. BTW, anybody else have this song stuck in their head since you first saw the commercial? Quote
