Super User flechero Posted March 20, 2009 Super User Posted March 20, 2009 There was an accident the other day on our home lake... still one body that's not been recovered... sadly, it's the brother of someone close. I hate reality checks like this. Please be careful on the water guys, it happens WAY to often. :'( Quote
done Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 Sorry to hear that flechero. We had one not too long ago on Wylie. Just tragic. Quote
jimmieO Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 Very sorry to hear this, those are someone's children lifejackets, lifejackets, lifejackets Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted March 20, 2009 Super User Posted March 20, 2009 That sucks. Happens way to often and any of us could become a statistic at any time. Prayers to all involved. Quote

Super User Root beer Posted March 21, 2009 Super User Posted March 21, 2009 Someone drowned on our lake last year and I happen to be out of school the next day. I had 10 text messages and miscalls wondering if I'm ok. Lot of my friends knew I fish and they heard it on the news and was hoping it wasn't me. Sorry hear it happen near in your neck of the woods. Reason we fear death is because no one lived to tell us about it. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted March 21, 2009 BassResource.com Administrator Posted March 21, 2009 Man that's terrible. Was it on Belton? One thing I noticed while on Ike's boat this year was that my life vest had a kill switch on it. I asked him about it and he told me that it was in case he got thrown out of the boat. He told me of an incident when that happened to him. Fortunately he was with Ish Monroe, but he didn't have a kill switch on his vest. Ish skillfully held the switch down while driving the boat back over to Mike to pick him up. Ever since then, Mike has had a kill switch on his passenger's vest. Good idea, and cheap insurance for a few bucks. Quote
Super User flechero Posted March 21, 2009 Author Super User Posted March 21, 2009 Yes, it was Belton. It seems like we have a couple every year. We already had one at Stillhouse (5 miles away) this year. My boat has the older style kill switch where there is a manual switch, and if the "ring" is pulled free the toggle switch is flipped. So anyone could flip it and be back in service. Quote
hjerk24 Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Will pray for you and those in your community, and the family of those involved in the boating accident. I am sorry for your/your communities loss. Jamie Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted March 22, 2009 Super User Posted March 22, 2009 man thats a shame. Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted March 22, 2009 Super User Posted March 22, 2009 So sorry to hear of your loss. I made a promise to my family many years ago, to wear my PFD while in the boat. Normally, if I'm fishing with someone, I just wear my PFD while the boat is under power. If I'm by myself, I wear it all the time. I wish we could convince everybody to wear their PFD, but so many guys think it's not the macho thing to do. Falcon Quote
