Super User retiredbosn Posted March 20, 2009 Super User Posted March 20, 2009 Did anyone else make this show?? It was awesome, three trainers John Lyons, Tommy Garland, and Richard Winters had three hours, to take a wild horse and break it. No force is tolerated, after three hours the contestants have to be able to ride the horse, turn in circles, back, ride an obstacle course, over tarps, drag logs, etc. Richard Winters didn't even use a bit, Tommy Garland was standing in the saddle and cracking a whip, John Lyons horse looked as tame as a 20 year old trail horse, he tried to spook his horse by shaking a rain coat at its face, no spook. Anyone who messes with horses can appreciate the feats these top notch trainers pulled off in just three hours. FWIW Richard Winters won the competition, but as a spectator I couldn't have picked anyone over the rest. It was awesome. Quote

Super User retiredbosn Posted March 21, 2009 Author Super User Posted March 21, 2009 I missed it. What channel was that on? the only channel that you could possibly catch anything on would be RFD TV. The horse show is a two day event that I went to watch in person. This link contains some of the most amazing horsemanship I've ever seen. Stacy Westfall riding bridleless and bareback 2006 this video show the venue, there are three rings in the arena and all training takes place there in front of the gallery. The horses used are three year old geldings that have not been handled, and are basically buck wild. This year Tommy Garland had to lasso his horse to be able to touch it, by the end of three hours of training he was not only riding the horse but standing in the saddle and cracking a whip off of its back.
