done Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 Alright, this is a pet peeve of mine. We have a store nearby, that really has awesome stuff. They have reasonable prices on most of it and good customer service. However, I find more often then not I cannot shop there. Their hours our 10am - 6pm. They are a 45 minute drive from my house. It seems to me, if you are going to be open on the weekdays, you would be open to at least 7 pm. By the time someone gets out of work to go and do some shopping, or off the water this place is already closed. I generally have to go to other stores that I do not like as much because of the hours. Am I just weird with these hours? It just seems to me they would be open later than 6pm on weekdays. Quote
FishingPirate Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 I almost have that problem except the store is about five minutes from my house and about 20 seconds past where you turn to go to my house. I still feel your pain bud. Quote
ROCbass Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 I've always thought the same thing about stores that close early on weekdays. It seems like with most people working during the day that 2-10 pm would be the busiest time for these stores, yet many of them close at 5. I have the same problem with banks as well. By the time you get out of work on payday, you can't cash your check because the bank is closed > Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted March 19, 2009 Super User Posted March 19, 2009 Back in the small town where I grew up (pop. 10,000,) banks were open 9:00 til 4:00, five days a week. Businesses were generally open from 9:00 til 6:00 on week-days and 9:00 til 2:00 on Saturdays. NO business was open on Sunday. That was forty years ago, but with the exception of the banks, I would suspect that any town that is lucky enough not to have a WalMart still maintains the same values. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted March 19, 2009 Super User Posted March 19, 2009 Bait & tackle stores down here open 7 & 6 on W.E., some open an hour earlier than that, I'm thankful Walmart is open 24 hours for a fill in as I generally leave about 4 am. Some banks are open Sundays and most have extended hours on Fridays. With an ATM card you're never out of cash & most take credit cards anyway. Business' need to cater to their clientele, products as well as hours, even the big box stores. I come from the theory of "ya gotta spend a buck to make a buck" Stores today need better trained sales personnel and store managers to do the ordering of products offered for sale instead of the home office purchasing agents. nick76 Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 A lot of small businesses go this route for staffing reasons. If you look, 10-6 is an 8 hour day. Do this for 5 days and you have a 40 hour work week. Many people feel that if you are working more than this you either pay to hire an employee who may or may not care as much as the owner or pay someone overtime. Unfortunately it does not help you out any and I agree with your complaint. Quote
done Posted March 19, 2009 Author Posted March 19, 2009 It seems to me that 11-7 would be much better. I mean you get any lunch stragglers, and then give the working stiff 5-7 really to get in there and do their business. Quote
