Mobydick Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Last week I enlisted in the Army, and I just got back from MEP's an hour ago. I passed my physical and got sworn in this afternoon. I am active army and have a job in the intelligence field. I get shipped to basic training in August, and AIT training for 23 weeks after basic. I think it was a good choice. Ian Quote

Super User fishfordollars Posted March 4, 2009 Super User Posted March 4, 2009 Use the next five months to put your body in the best shape you can. Still won't be enough, but will give you a head start on most of the other recruits and may keep a DI off your A*& a little(Well, maybe not). Familiarize yourself with the manual of arms and go for it. Enjoy. Good luck Quote

I hope it is as exciting as you all say, I am really looking forward to the experience! I start my physical training next week also! Ian Quote

Mobydick Posted March 4, 2009 Author Posted March 4, 2009 I forgot to mention.....the sense of humor at MEP's was great...when I was walking down the hall to the mens physical room...there was a sign on the door that read....."Welcome To The Fun Factory!!!" Ian Quote
Super User Dan: Posted March 4, 2009 Super User Posted March 4, 2009 Congrats and good luck. How do you know the field you are going into? I suppose I don't really know how recruitment or enlistment works. Do you get to choose what you are going to do? Quote

BassinSoldier Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Great to hear man! Any idea where you're going to be stationed yet or did they not put a base in your orders for after AIT? I'm here at Ft. Campbell in Kentucky...Anyhow like someone else said...There will be good and bad times. When you get to your unit don't let the "barracks lawyers" form your impression of your unit, draw your own conclusions. There are a lot of ___bags in some units that will want to bring anyone they can down to their level. Do your best in basic and AIT and enjoy your time...You're about to grow up and you don't even know it! Quote

Ian My Dad was in the Army for 21 years, and during his tour my family and I were in Germany while he was stationed there. Those 3 years are some of the most memorable of my life as a kid. Go Army! Red Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 just remember this, if a drill sergeant asks you to put on his hat or another DS's hat...DONT DO IT!!!! good luck man! Quote
Adi Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 It depends on your MOS where you get sent. What exactly is your MOS? I went to Ft. Huchi Cuchi too. There is absolutely nothing to do there. Small town outside base and all they have are motels and food places. The "mall" there is only as big as some Super Walmarts are. There only thing you will be doing there after you phase is going to the motel on the weekends and drink and smoke. Let me know if you have any other questions. Quote
