Last week I enlisted in the Army, and I just got back from MEP's an hour ago. I passed my physical and got sworn in this afternoon. I am active army and have a job in the intelligence field. I get shipped to basic training in August, and AIT training for 23 weeks after basic. I think it was a good choice.

Good luck. Why the five-month delay between enlistment and basic training?

Use the next five months to put your body in the best shape you can. Still won't be enough, but will give you a head start on most of the other recruits and may keep a DI off your A*& a little(Well, maybe not). Familiarize yourself with the manual of arms and go for it. Enjoy.

Good luck

Good luck, I too went in the Navy right after HS. It launched my career. Heads up and stay safe.

I forgot to mention.....the sense of humor at MEP's was great...when I was walking down the hall to the mens physical room...there was a sign on the door that read....."Welcome To The Fun Factory!!!"

Congrats and good luck.

How do you know the field you are going into? I suppose I don't really know how recruitment or enlistment works. Do you get to choose what you are going to do?

You are making an admirable decision. There will be good times and bad, but most of all the memories you will have in these few years will be with you forever. Best of luck to you! -Jim Grouch (USMC 2002-2006)

Clank-clank, you are a tank!

Great move on your part.

Do your best and have a goal of Officers Training School and become an officer and a gentleman.

Also, check out when you can join USAA for insurance.  Fantastic company that specializes in military families and their needs.

You are a special person to join our military and we are very proud of you for doing so.

Good luck and enjoy your tour of duty.  :)

Thank you in advance for your service and those along side of you. The advice from us old farts may get old. ;D Just remember this when at Boot Camp: "They can eat you, but they can't kill you- there's a law against that!" Good Luck and Take Care. Enjoy your summer too!

Great to hear man!  Any idea where you're going to be stationed yet or did they not put a base in your orders for after AIT?  I'm here at Ft. Campbell in Kentucky...Anyhow like someone else said...There will be good and bad times.  When you get to your unit don't let the "barracks lawyers" form your impression of your unit, draw your own conclusions.  There are a lot of ___bags in some units that will want to bring anyone they can down to their level.  Do your best in basic and AIT and enjoy your time...You're about to grow up and you don't even know it!

They told me I will choose where I want to be stationed while im in AIT. I will get 5 choices and they will pick one. I am going to basic in Fort Leanard Wood in Missouri, and AIT in Fort Huachuca in Arizona.

Does anyone have any ideas where I should try to get stationed at?

I heard Germany and Italy are among the best places to be stationed.

My Dad was in the Army for 21 years, and during his tour my family and I were in Germany while he was stationed there. Those 3 years are some of the most memorable of my life as a kid. Go Army! HOOAH!

It depends on your MOS where you get sent.  What exactly is your MOS?  I went to Ft. Huchi Cuchi too.  There is absolutely nothing to do there.  Small town outside base and all they have are motels and food places.  The "mall" there is only as big as some Super Walmarts are.  There only thing you will be doing there after you phase is going to the motel on the weekends and drink and smoke.  Let me know if you have any other questions.
