Siebert Outdoors Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 any of you guys know how much of a difference this makes? There are so many types out there I dont want to waste money but I dont want junk ones if its worth it. Quote
thetr20one Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Buy the cheapest cable you can find. There will be absolutley no difference in $100 monster cables and the $30 cables you can get at Wal-Mart. You can check this out at pcmag.com Quote
dallas0996 Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 I second that! too many articles written about this by too many knowledgeable geeks (I am a geek for a living, btw)...basically it breaks down to this; if you are paying more than 10 bucks a meter you are paying for the name... Quote
dallas0996 Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Check out this site. Quality at a good price. My friends and I have always had a good experience with their product. http://www.monoprice.com/home/index.asp Quote
fathom Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 check out cnet.com...tells you all you need to know. sorta like consumer reports for electronics. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted March 14, 2009 Super User Posted March 14, 2009 There are different versions of cables. There are some incompatibility issues, mostly with Sony TV's and some of the versions of cables. Quote
Eddie Munster Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 http://www.meritline.com/searchnew.aspx?SearchTerm=hdmi I ordered some from this site and they work fine. They run specials and I snagged 3 6' gold plated HDMI cables for $7.99 (all three) with free shipping. I packed my $30.00 Walmart one back up and returned it after seeing there was no difference that I could tell. Quote
Super User South FLA Posted March 14, 2009 Super User Posted March 14, 2009 Check out this site. Quality at a good price. My friends and I have always had a good experience with their product. http://www.monoprice.com/home/index.asp Monoprice is great I used many of their products to install my home entertainment system. From mounts to cables! Quote
1inStripes Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 I have even bought a few things from monoprice. Not all cables are the same though. The longer run you have of an HDMI cable, the better quality I would suggest. Quote
bigmountaineer Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 The thing with these cables are they are digital signals they either work or they don't work, it's not a quality thing. Buy the cheapest you can and you'll be fine. Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 I would add that HDMI really shines if you are using the PS3 on an HDTV. I have mine hooked up to our Sony Bravia 32" with the cheap HDMI cables and it looks fantastic. Quote
thetr20one Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 I have a 47" Philips 1080p and a PS3. I use the Wal-Mart HDMI cables for my playstation and cable box. If you have a HDTV and a PS3 and are not using HDMI cables you have know idea what you are missing. A Blu-Ray player or HD-DVD with HDMI connections are the only way to fully realize true 1080p. If you have never seen this set up, when you do it will blow your mind. We also have a 32" Philips 720p in our bedroom and also use the HDMI connections for it. These cables are just easier and cleaner. Even using component cables will not give you true HD. All my cables were bought at wal-mart but, if I had known about that monoprice I problably would have went there. Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted March 14, 2009 Super User Posted March 14, 2009 Well I was the dumb one and listened to the folks at Best Buy and bought two Monster HDMI cables. I got one for the PS3 and one for my HD tuner. Got it all setup and it looks really great. The first few times I played GTA 4 I got motion sickness. That 52" screen really pulls you into the game. Super User burleytog Posted March 14, 2009 Super User Posted March 14, 2009 Even using component cables will not give you true HD. False. Quote
