Copen1822 Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Anybody else ready for some spring turkey hunting? Quote
daviscw Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Meeee! They pass through my pasture every single night in a gang of about 20. Right before the season starts (beginning of April) they will break up and will be nowhere to be found. But hey, that's what makes it fun, right? Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 cant wait. I've seen some in the fields already. Quote
Super User Micro Posted March 11, 2009 Super User Posted March 11, 2009 I really enjoyed it when I did it. I haven't had the urge in years but it sure was fun. Nothing like a chilly spring morning trying to get a shock-gobble with a high-pitch glass slate. I have about a dozen calls or so I may put on the flea-market page. Quote
Copen1822 Posted March 11, 2009 Author Posted March 11, 2009 Anyone hearing any gobbling yet? It's still pretty early here in WI but some of you southern boys are probably hearing some, eh? One of my favorite spring activitys is to stop on a ridge in the early morning and hear that first gobble of the year. Few things compare!! 8-) Quote
wisturkeyhunter Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 I'm always ready for some turkey hunting spring or fall. Turkey hunting beats all. Copen1822 they gobble and strut year round. Quote
basser89 Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 I can't wait! It'll be the first time in several years that I'll be going! Thankfully, I'll be hunting on some private property with one of my friends. And to be honest, if I don't kill one, I'll be perfectly happy as long as my friend does. He's never shot a spring gobbler and I'd like to change that for him! Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted March 11, 2009 Super User Posted March 11, 2009 I've been ready. Our season starts April 11, and I'm already overly anxious. I went up to our land a few days ago, and it looks like a war zone from the ice storm that rolled through a few months ago. Quote
Copen1822 Posted March 12, 2009 Author Posted March 12, 2009 Copen1822 they gobble and strut year round. True, but not like they do in the spring. You might hear an occasional gobble throughout the year, and some strutting, but nothing like the show they put on in spring!! Quote
justfishin Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 I am so ready. I have had a flock in my area since last fall. There is a big bird in there I want. Nice long beard and I would bet nice spurs. Its the only time I don't fish. Maryland Spring is fun. I am always trying new loads. Anyone have any ideas on powder numbers and shot? My reloader needs a break from the old stuff. Quote
Tom H. Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Oh so ready - Ran down to the family farm yesterday to check things out and saw around 20 or so in the bottom food plot . Can't wait for turkey season to get here . Quote
1inStripes Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Anyone hearing any gobbling yet? Been hearing one for a week or two now. Sounds like hes a little ways across the river from my house though. I haven't had the time to go back in the woods behind my house lately, but my neighbor said he hasn't saw any sign of any back in there. Quote
