boomdigity Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Shore fishing I am limited many time as to were I can fish. Many times I can only occupy a small piec of land. I like to throw a bussbait or a soft plastic top water and was wondering is it possible to wear an area out. How long should I stand there throw the same bait over the same area. Is it possible scare fish away making repeated cast to the same general area. Typically I will give 15 20 minutes then move down the bank. But I have stood there of and hour and out of nowhere a lunker comes and nails it. Quote
Infidel. Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 I think you answered your own question. When I fish from shore, I am like you. I will throw a reaction bait for a little while but if I am going to stay in that area for a while, I will put it down and pick up a worm. I will pick up the reaction every ten or fifteen minutes, give it a hand full of casts, then go back to the worm. But there are times where you can stick with a reaction and pound an area untill a fish moves in. Quote
Bobby Uhrig Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Killer question walleyboy-I thought of that many times while fishing. When I fish from shore-first I will cast right down the shoreline--then down the next shoreline-(figure 9 o'clock then 3 o'clock) then 10'oclock-then two o'clock and keep alternating so they do not get accustomed to the bait -mix it up after 5-10 min move on down the line. works for me Quote
Big-O Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Wallyboy, Sometimes top water racket like you are referring to with a buzzbait style actually calls fish in to a particular area. I think they are inquisitive to see what the commotion is all about and possibly relate the noise to a feeding frenzy etc. This has been proven many times and is extremely prevalent in South America with Peacock bass fishing as they will come from a distance to ck out the racket or to see if other smaller fish are moving in on their territory. Since larger fish (bass) are more territorial, it makes your comment valid on getting slammed by a large fish after repeated casts in a given area. Many of us old guys have experienced this same situation before and maybe many of us are not as patient when we are in a boat to see this result. I would follow Bobby's advice and move after 10 minutes or so. Big O www.ragetail.com Quote
boomdigity Posted June 13, 2008 Author Posted June 13, 2008 I would like to mention that the lake is pretty much surrounded by a park completely accessible on foot and waders. Check out the lake. Althought there is a fair amount of boat traffic. Structure is fallen trees in the North Channel and weeds lots of weeds. Two major highways cross the channel to North. This is were I spend the majority of my time. Where the lake meets the river. Whith the added noise of the boats and cars does this affect the top water bit seeing that the buzz baits and rage tails are mostly noise. Quote
Dutchmaster Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 ...and alot of times if there not biting that 15th cast to the same spot might get'em ticked off and they'll strike it. Quote
wagn Posted June 15, 2008 Posted June 15, 2008 I night fish from shore alot, usually right from a ramp where people fish all day and catch nothing. In my experiance I can usually expect 2-3 fish out these spots on a regular night in about 40 min. After I catch those fish there are either no fish left, or all of the commotion of fighting the fish have scared the other fish off. So usually it's no more then 45 min per spot for me, before I move on Quote
