Tokyo Tony Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Haha, hand-picked stats for sure, but entertaining nonetheless. I wish, I wish, I wish cigarettes were good for you. "A pack a day keeps the doctor away." ;D
Super User retiredbosn Posted March 11, 2009 Super User Posted March 11, 2009 I don't know wy but it is attitudes like this that make me want to light up. People must understand that I have the right to or not to smoke irregardless of what they think. I do not get much slack over smoking even in public. that said, The tobacco lawsuit was ridiculous, the lawyers got rich the people got nothing. The next lawsuit of this nature will be directed towards the fast food industry, ever wondered why they all started selling salads, etc after the tobacco lawsuit? As a former smoker and a social smoker now smoking is a choice, period. Those of us who choose to smoke should be able to do so, without being singled out for taxes or snide comments about how we are killing ourselves. Most of the people in my family smoke, and noone has ever died from or even had lung cancer. There isn't one case of cancer in my family of any type. The only people that I know who have died from lung cancer two cases were mesothelioma (asbestos cancer) and a couple who did not smoke but had lung cancer (caused by radon in the ground). It is my thinking that you either have a genetic predisposition to cancer or you don't. How can science explain families like mine in which the majority of people smoke, but in spite of that, hypertension, heart disease, lung disease and cancer are non existent. My family isn't the only one either. I don't know how many are aware, but I started rolling my own cigs a few years ago and roll your own tobacco doesn't even carry a surgeon's general warning. Bottom line my take on tobacco use and cancer is simple, natural tobacco doesn't cause cancer, the tobacco that has been chemically treated and "improved" may. It wasn't that long ago and cigarettes were prescribed to patients for "nerves". It is politically correct to attack smokers, after they tax all of us to the point we quit, those who eat fast food will have to pick up the tab.
NaterD Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Interesting article I was just skimming over after reading this... http://www.redorbit.com/news/health/1644953/being_overweight_carries_same_health_risk_as_smoking/ -I've never really smoked either... but almost all my buddies do, tragically, most of the same ones are overweight. I enjoy the ''high'' of a workout over any other - just my 2 pennies
hjerk24 Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Nothing positive will come from this discussion, so peace out. CHEERS! Let's get back to fishing....
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted March 11, 2009 Super User Posted March 11, 2009 I really didn't find your original posts offensive HJERK. You spoke your mind and seemed to genuinely care about the risks that people like me take by smoking. What I can't stand however are those people with the "my s--t smells like roses attitude" because they don't smoke and I am doing nothing but killing them just by my very presence. In other words I don't think you came across that way and if you did I would have been the first to post a nasty retort.
