Bass Dude Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 I see a lot of posts on here about your favorites---do you like any bands with funky names?? One of my favs that unfortunately is no longer a band---you Tennessee boys might have heard of them. They are, to me, the very definition of rock. Their name... The Screamin' Cheetah Wheelies Quote
Bass XL Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 There is a hard-core band out there called Dying Fetus. I personally have only listened to them a few times and that was with my old boss. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 5, 2009 Super User Posted March 5, 2009 The Beatles I guess it kinda worked out for them... : Quote
Super User Sam Posted March 5, 2009 Super User Posted March 5, 2009 Good post. Do you all realize the money that goes into a "brand name" or even the name of a car? Companies hire advertising firms to come up with a catch name or logo. And a lot of the name have no thread to the actual product. Take fishing lines: Yo-Zuri? Trileen? Silver Thread? P-Line? What about soft drinks: Mountain Dew? Seven-Up? Canada Dry? Go Daddy.com? What in the world is that? Sports names: Like what is a Crimson Tide? Or a Green Wave? Or a Saluki? Or a Hokie? The list goes on and I can't wait to read what the guys will post. Quote

WIII-60 Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Sports names: Like what is a Crimson Tide? Or a Green Wave? Or a Saluki? Or a Hokie? Just talked about this the other day. A saluki is a dog. The first band that comes to mind is the butthole surfers. Quote

wagn Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 For some reason I really like band names that are statements or partial sentences. Ex: As I lay dying, Rage against the machine, System of a down, ...and you will know us by the trail of dead. I just think it's more interesting then The beatles, The strokes, etc... Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 You have no idea what I listen too. Odd names are common place. Quote

I agree for the most part but the metal name scene is starting to get a little stagnant... As I Lay Dying, Everytime I Die, Through the Eyes of the Dead, With Dead Hands Rising, Bury Your Dead... all variations on the same concept. One of my favorite bands and band names is Bring Me the Horizon. For some reason I just think that name is epic lol. Quote

SMSRTC Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Toad The Wet Sprocket When I first heard of this band, my first thought was how ridiculus the name was, but then I heard that they got it from a Monty Python bit, after which I thought it was a great name. Quote
