Fisher of Men Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Hey everyone, As many of you know, I had one of my 8th grade students pass away back at the beginning of the year. A couple of hours ago, I got a call that one of my 13 year old students had shot himself. I am close to this young man and his family in that they are also church members and help with our children's music program. The shot apparently entered his chin and exited around his nose, and he was care-flighted to Ft. Worth. I do not currently know his condition, but that he was concious when EMT's arrived. I'm sure there will be alot of heartache in our school this weekend and Monday morning. On top of this we have state standardized testing on Tuesday that 8th graders must pass to move on to high school. Please lift up this family in your thoughts and prayers as well as our students and faculty. God bless, Stacy Quote

Super User Sam Posted February 28, 2009 Super User Posted February 28, 2009 That is awful. I hope he pulls through and gets some professional help from a number of sources. Thoughts and prayers sent. Please let us know what happens. Quote
nick76 Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Prayers are with you and your family. I hope that your school is doing more than our school is about this problem. We have lost two kids on average the last 5 years due to stupid things like this or poor driving. The school is not that big (about 100 kids a class year), and instead of helping these kids through their troubles they have just said nothing. No conferences, no assemblies, nothing to address this. Kids are not totally stupid, you can talk with them, you can get them to see warning signs, but they have chosen to ignore it for fear of liability. It is shameful. Quote
hjerk24 Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Prayers will be spoken for you and your school family today and tonight. It's a blessing you have a strong faith, and are able to minister people during this difficult time. Check this one out...could help someone today. Psalms 18:1-3 Quote

justfishin Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Prayers to the child, family and students whom have to deal with this. I will give a prayer at Mass in the morning as well. I ask for yours as well. I did not know the family but eight miles away a guy just set his girlfriends house on fire ----he lived with her--- and it burned up her thirteen and eleven year old daughters. He said he did it to get sympathy from the town to get some financial help as he was not working. He set the place ablaze and then attempted to put it out but it got away from him, he said. Go figure. Quote
Fisher of Men Posted February 28, 2009 Author Posted February 28, 2009 Thanks guys! It's times like this when I truly appreciate all of you around BassResource.com. Hjerk, Thanks for that scripture. I find it no coincidence that it is the same one that I put in our church newsletter this month. Re-reading it comforted me. This young man has been struggling as he was adopted by his grandfather a couple of years ago. The mom has never really had much to do with him and he doesn't even know who his father is. Some of the trouble started when his grandfather (now father) re-married. The step-grandmother (who is a teacher for our church program) and the young man haven't gotten along over the past year. He has been to counseling and even a psychologist with the family and they have been doing everything they can to get through this. On top of the problems at home, he is bullied by several other boys at school. I have tried to deal with this on an individual basis, but our administration seems to turn their head to the problem. Hopefully, this will be a wake-up call to them to stand up and address the problem. We talked to family this morning, and he is still in trauma ICU and is sedated. There is swelling and he will probably face a full day of reconstructive surgery tomorrow. He awoke last night to see the grandfather and got really agitated (thus the sedation; perhaps upset that he wasn't successful). It looks like he'll pull through, but there will be many hurdles in front of him and the family. I appreciate your thoughts and prayers and will keep you guys updated as to his condition. God bless, FOM P.S. Justfishin, I will keep that family in my prayers as well. Quote

I had a pretty tough time around then (horrific family situation, and tough time at school) and I remember not feeling too happy about being alive. The thing that sticks in my mind now, is how utterly insignificant those HUGE issues I had back then are to me now and back then they were serious enough to weigh my life against them. I have and will definitely continue to be praying for this guy and his family. Quote

The thing that sticks in my mind now, is how utterly insignificant those HUGE issues I had back then are to me now and back then they were serious enough to weigh my life against them. That is a thought that I would like to convey to this young man, and will when he comes around. UPDATE: I went to see him yesterday (just out of surgery) and witnessed a miracle. He used a .45 auto below the chin and doesn't have brain damage and the bullet went just between a branch in the optical nerve (so no blindness). It is obvious that God's giving this boy a second chance at life. He has a wired jaw and will have for 3 months. The surgeon took around 6 hours to totally reconstruct the nasal passages and forehead exit wound. There will be many other surgeries to follow. Our school counselor met with the 8th graders this morning to give a report on his condition. I heard from one student that there is already negativity coming from classmates ("he was stupid, etc."). I am concerned that this doesn't make things worse within our student population. Thanks again for your continuing prayers and thoughts! -Fisher Quote
hjerk24 Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 God is GOOD!!!!! That's great news. Maybe when he returns, or kids see what has happened to him physically, they may begin to realize just the damage that their words have cause. Which I may add, probably go way deeper than any bullet could have caused. I am glad for him, and his family, as well as you, am the people that you minister to. God bless you, and we will continue to pray for his healing, and the kids of your school. Maybe this could cause some of those kids at school to go through a change that could bring them to their salvation. Answered prayers...and a most def. second chance. Have a Blessed Day- Jamie Check out Romans 9:17 Great passage, and the direction that this boy has been led. Quote
