rboat Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Do you have a panic box to use when nothing else is working and if so what lures are in it? Mine has a mepps spinner, a small silver spoon, a yellow roostertail spinner, a black beetlespin, & some 4" junebug finesse worms. Usually one of these will produce a strike. Quote
Brian_Reeves Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Mine has 6 inch renegade worms, keel weighted hooks, trick sticks, flukes, manns baby 1 minus crankbaits, strike king 3/16oz spinnerbaits, rage tail craws, spot remover jigheads, round jigheads, and the small beavers from *. One of those lures is almost guarenteed to work. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted June 9, 2008 Super User Posted June 9, 2008 Certain baits of any manufacturer seem to have a few of each design that outfish lures of the same design. My box contains the lures that have proven themselves to catch more fish. Reguardless of the type lure it goes into the box and is only used on tournament day. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted June 9, 2008 Super User Posted June 9, 2008 My Panic equipment are Spot Removers with a couple of bags of finesse worms and my dropshot stuff and JJ's Magic. Quote
Super User Sam Posted June 10, 2008 Super User Posted June 10, 2008 My entire boat is a panic box when nothing is biting. I will change up biats and presentations and colors and depth just to see what will work. I know that a Roostertail or a small white grub on a small jig head can get the bluegill and bream bite thus showing me what is in the water so I can change my baits, accordingly. Sometimes I will throw a topwater. Dead Sticking, Split-Shotting and Wacky Senkos usually produce some strikes. Quote
Zel Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Bobby Garlands Hard Times Grubs, Berkley 4 hand pours, 4 Slider Worms, Kastmaster jigging spoons and blade baits. Quote
Evan Pease Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Rooster Tails, Rocket Shads, Rebel Crawdads, small Rapalas, and little 1/16-1/4oz rubber skirted jigs are in mine. They're also the same things I use in small water. Quote

Usually one of these will produce a strike. I have never understood panic boxes. If the baits in your panic box always produce strikes, why not fish with them for an hour or two to ensure you have a small limit early in the morning? Like I said, the thinking behind the boxes have always puzzled me. Why scramble at the end of the day trying to bag a limit than at the beggining of the day and then getting into a big fish mindset of slowing way down? Quote
Super User flechero Posted June 10, 2008 Super User Posted June 10, 2008 My panic box has another name... the cooler. When fish are tight lipped, I'm not. I have never understood panic boxes. In reality, I'm with you. If those baits always work or get you out of a jam most of the time, they are what you need to be using on a regular basis. Quote

Zel Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 I have never understood panic boxes. Over half of the stuff in my panic box are things that are now discontinued and have always produced when the bite is tough, so I use them very sparingly. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted June 10, 2008 Super User Posted June 10, 2008 I don't really have a panic box. I just tend to stick with what works at the time and expand beyond that if necassary just for the fun of it. Quote
mrmacwvu1 Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 all of my stuff is panic box i cut down on over 90% of my stuff i never take all of my stuff with me just what i know is going to work Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 I used to keep one, don't anymore. I just integrated it into my normal tackle so that no matter the conditions, I'll always have a Mepps black fury #3 and #4 with red dots, Powerworms in Tequila Sunrise, a green and white tandem willow spinnerbait, Slug-go in Arkansas Shiner, and a few Bandit 100s and 200s. Castamasta Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 if nothing will work, that usually will, and even if that isnt working, i have so much confidence in it, it doesnt matter if i dont catch fish, i still like fishing with it. X2 Quote
TournyFish001 Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 my "panic box" consists of one tactic, drop shot with a 4.5" straight tail roboworm on my GLX drop shot rod on my light spool 4lb test straight florocarbon- this has bailed me out many times from winter til the middle of summer. As far as colors go; oxblood crawler and warmouth usually cover it. Quote
paangler3117 Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 motor oil power worms 4in and 6in, 1/8 colorado blade white spinnerbait, black/blue jig 3/8oz, #7 shad rap-shad color, old g finish shad color spot. But that last ones a secret.....oh.... :-/ Jim Quote
Willzx225 Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 my panic box consists of a drop shot and a shakeyhead. For the most part when I go to the panic box I have conceded first place and am now fishing for a check or a limit. Most times if I were going to start with a shakeyhead or dropshot I am not fishing to win. JMHO Quote

JMHO That's unfortunate that you haven't stumbled onto the big fish potential the shaky head and drop shot rig posess. Once you find a group of big fish, there is no better way to catch them. Quote
Willzx225 Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Not that I don't doubt that these baits will not catch larger than average fish, it is just that by nature I am more of a power fisherman first and a finesse fishermen second. I will catch them anyway I need to but my prefered techniques are power techniques. Though I have started many a tournament with a drop shot or a shakeyhead. Its just a mental thing. Quote
