fathom Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 this is why i walked away from the nba years ago. those guys commit more fouls in the first 4 seconds than used to be committed the entire game. there is no game anymore...just a spectacle of a game. Quote

Super User Muddy Posted February 23, 2009 Author Super User Posted February 23, 2009 You got that right DAVE! I gave away my opening day seat. What a pitiful total decline of my most beloved sport. :-/ Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted February 23, 2009 Super User Posted February 23, 2009 Muddy, you've often said that you don't watch football. It took me years to finally understand that the most unpredictable and most enjoyable sport to watch is College football. Quote

Daniel My Brother Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 Muddy, I give my team, the Cardinals, the same respect they give me. When they make the effort to field a winning team, I make the effort to watch. When they fail, I turn away. I am not a die-hard fan of any pro team and I feel no guilt about this relationship. If they are only in it for the money (and they've proven that they are) then I am only in it for the good times. You can call me a bandwagon fan, but I'm not about to get upset over the failure of a bunch of spoiled millionaires. I'll leave that for Cub fans. ;D Dan Quote

Super User Tin Posted February 23, 2009 Super User Posted February 23, 2009 I want to walk away from baseball as well. I was young and stupid and it was amateur hour. My cousin and I turned on a game one day and then we would watch baseball for about 6 months a year. We never got any real satisfaction or joy from watching. Like I said, we were young and stupid, and it was amateur hour. Moving forward, I just want to make my living room a better place, without baseball. Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted February 23, 2009 Super User Posted February 23, 2009 I lost the love when Molitor left the Brewers, and Yount threatened to. Quote
nboucher Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 Dominick, long time not talk. Your post saddened me, because you're an old-school fan and have been around game for a long, long time. Baseball needs exactly your kind of fandom right now. Every complaint you have is right on. I couldn't agree more. But baseball is the best game ever invented, and when that first batter steps into the box at the top of the first, all that BS falls away, and the game on the field is as magical as ever. To me the best analogy is with democracy. Sure the politicians are crooked, lazy, self-interested, paid off by lobbyists, etc., but it's still the best form of government ever invented, and I ain't walking away from it. Don't let the *** win, man. Don't walk away. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted February 23, 2009 Author Super User Posted February 23, 2009 Hey Norman: no disrespect but I am done. I AM searching for an unaffiliated league, not a minor league club. I can't stand college with those freaking tin bats, if it's not ash, it isn't worth it for me. I will find some ball, that I can live with. When the seats are empty enough and TV viewing dips enough , things may change and I would come back. That is why I say, just for today I have to walk away from this crap. Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted February 23, 2009 Super User Posted February 23, 2009 The Mighty NFL is next. There is no way those freaks ain't on the juice. Greedy hypocritical owners are to blame. Quote

Maybe try to watch the local little league but make it a park board thing not the fancy teams. Yea the bats are aluminum but the ball is pretty pure. On the other hand parents can kind of screw that up as well. Maybe check out one of those wooden bat leagues like my brother plays in ( at 52 no less). Better yet join one and show em how to play the game old school. My brother has seen 70 year old pitchers that nobody can hit. God luck witht the search. Quote
