This link will raise some furious debate. I did not intend to start this thread just have it delete or lock by the moderator, so please lets be civilized about this.

I honestly believed this woman is a freaking greedy idiot! She is taking a large sum of money out of a company's hand. I can imaging a company having to cut jobs for losing this kind of cash.

I mean tobacco company advertise warning all over their websites!! Even the product package gives you warning labels. Her husband knew what he was doing. I mean why does she need to be award 130 million dollar? It not going bring her husband back.

This my friend is waste of capital for an industry whom spent a lot of money telling people danger of tobacco.

Only in America. ::)

P.S. this proved my theory that common sense no longer exist in America. ;D

Didn't warn the public about the dangers of cigarette smoking????

What did she want? the cigarette company to have someone rip the cigarette from her husband's mouth everytime he tried to light up?

She could have done that. She's just as guilty.  It's called personal responsibility for one's actions.

They spent a lot of money getting use to use them also. Then after everything caught up with them they admitted that they new how bad they were for years. So the government accepted 42 billion from them and then let them up the nicotine in each cigarette by 11%. This will make it that much harder to quit. Sue the hell out of them and the ones that grow and sell the d**n stuff. Then Hang em High.

Will the survivor of an alcoholic sue Budweiser?

Will the obese sue McDonalds?

Can we sue the Girl Scouts for making those thin mint cookies that made me fat?

Can we sue the baitmonkey?

I think it's terrible. Not smoking, the fact that people are still looking to profit from the deaths of smokers. In the movie "Thank You for Smoking" the protagonist claims that the American Lung Association gets happy when people, especially kids, get cancer. When I first saw the movie, I dismissed that line as crazy. The more stories like this that I see, the more I believe that line.

With all the education and warnings available, there is not one person who can honestly say that they don't know cigarrettes are harmful. I smoked for 4 years, knowing full and well what would happen to my health. Seriously, do you really think that if you walked up to a smoker and said "You know those things cause cancer?" that he would say, "Oh my, are you serious. Well then I'm going to quit right now!"

The last I knew(may have changed the law) Texas is the only state that allows  the landowner to shoot trespassers.

I don't care if the tobacco companies run adds that say smoking gives you perfect health and breath that smells like flowers, YOU know that smoking is bad for your health. I'm sure this guy's doctor, wife, kids, friends, and so on, told him it was killing him.

When my grandfather died in 1997 after smoking for 60 years he told my mother, "I should have quit in 1975 when I quit drinking." She replied, "yes but, you loved those cigarettes." His reply, "I sure did."

No one thought to sue anyone. He loved them, he smoked them, they killed him. We all knew it.

Nearly half of the legal profession would wither and die on the vine if people were actually held personally accountable for their own stupidity.  But Americans in particular have a couple of misperceptions:  First, that if something goes wrong, it can't possibly be their own fault.  Second, that companies are nameless, faceless monsters that are somehow responsible for everything bad that happens in the world.

I'm not saying that cigarettes aren't bad for you or that cigarette companies don't know that.  But I've never heard of a cigarette company holding a gun to someone saying, "smoke this or else!"  It's sad when anyone dies but if I knowingly choose to ingest something that increases that possibility, I've got noone to blame but myself.
