LCpointerKILLA Posted February 17, 2009 Author Posted February 17, 2009 I think they do a pretty good job of remaining objective. I've seen them quite a few times call expensive items crap in multiple aspects. I agree Quote
Super User Micro Posted February 17, 2009 Super User Posted February 17, 2009 I really like TackleTour. While they may profile some equipment I can't (or won't) afford, I still like reading about it. In the same spirit as reading an article about a Ferrari in Car and Driver. But TT has plenty of articles on gear I can and do afford. As stated, go through their archives. And they appear to be very fair in their reviews. They've suprised me with some of their assessments. I trust their site so much that its usually the first place I look before making a purchase. And the forums are great. Lots of very knowledgable, friendly people. Quote
TheBeast Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 I am thinking they gave Kistler rods a good review because they are good rods. :-? Crazy thought. Bingo! BTW Tom you may be interested in one of the new Iaconelli rods I got coming in. They are to compete with Carrots but about $30 cheaper. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted February 17, 2009 Super User Posted February 17, 2009 Tackletour is a very informative site and serves its purpose very well. Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted February 17, 2009 Super User Posted February 17, 2009 I bought a kistler this Christmas and used the review on tackle tour as part of m research, I also have a friend with the same rod that I bought and I fished with it a little. Before Dec. of '08 I had never owned a rod other than a BPS rod or a Berkley Lightning Rod. The only new reel I had owned was a Quantum Code, the rest were a BPS round Pro Qualifier and an old Browning Citori, both bought from a friend. Then I found a great deal on the Kistler Magnesiums on eBay and paid $89 which is half of the list price and only $10 more than I paid for my Pro Qualifier on sale. I also used their review of the Pflueger Patriarch to aid me in choosing a new reel which I also purchased on eBay for a fraction of the cost. So I am also a low budget angler but if you know where to look you can get high quality gear that's affordable. so in short I guess....no, I don't agree with you. Quote
toolpush Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Hey, Bass Fisherman, I'm still laughing this morning over your comments earlier in this post. Thanks I needed that. BY the way after reading this post I decided to check out Tackle Tour for myself, I found it very informative and even found a review for a Powell rod I just purchased and haven't got in yet. Found the review to be very positive so I'm glad with my purchase and feel like I'll be very happy w/ my purchase, instead of wondering rather I bought the right rod for my technique. So Yes I think it is a good site. Still chuckling though. Quote
Hooked_On_Bass Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 No, I don't agree with you. Me (and the Bait Monkey ) thoroughly enjoy reading their reviews. Tackle Tour may or may not have had an influence on a few of my tackle purchases :. Quote

Super User South FLA Posted February 17, 2009 Super User Posted February 17, 2009 I love tackle tour, but I would have to agree with you they seem to favor high end stuff on their reviews for good reason. Nevertheless, I value their opinions and have often used them to make my decisions. It would be cool if the did a budget reel or rod roundup for those who are just starting out or are financially limited. They could have rods/reels meet a certain price point and run them through their usual test. It would be awesome. They could call it "The Low Budget Shootout." I can just see it now. I think it would be cool if they did something like a value-minded honorable mention... They could do a value-minded honorable mention for everything from reel reviews and tests, to line reviews and tests. Quote

Stasher1 Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 I enjoy their site. It's one of the first places I go when I'm looking for info on a rod or reel. Their flourocarbon shoot-out was enlightening, as well. Quote
