Super User Root beer Posted February 14, 2009 Super User Posted February 14, 2009 You ran out Fulmer for this guy? http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3906361 Much as I dislike Fulmer, but c'mon this guy is tarnishing Tennessee's image. As an Alabama fan, I'm rolling on floor laughing. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted February 14, 2009 Super User Posted February 14, 2009 At least they're reported. In Tuscaloosa, they would be ignored. Alabama has absolutely no room to lecture or laugh at anyone regarding recruiting violations. If not for Bear Bryant's deep pockets, the NCAA wouldn't have half the current regulations. Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 14, 2009 Super User Posted February 14, 2009 The guy is a loose cannon. He also said some things about Satan at Bama. As for Brown, other schools are now recruiting him. He is not a lock for UT. Should be interesting to see the final scores of the Bama and Florida games this year. I believe both are on the road for the Vols. However, with that said, I have to thank the University of Tennessee for sending LSU its defensive coordinator under Phat Phil Phulmer. Chavis will be a winner at LSU with his defensive schemes and unlike the Vols, LSU has an offense this coming year to compliment the defense. Quote

You just better hope LSU is up by more than a TD with less than 2 minutes to go or you will learn the Mustang D the hard way. I like Chavis, but inside 2 minutes he sucks something fierce. As for Kiffin, I was for his hiring and I like his brashness. Check out the article in SI this week. Theres no doubt he can recruit, check out his wife. ;D As for the Brown situation, it doesn't matter. If UT lands him great, if not I expect David Oku to commit then. I think he is waiting to see what Brown does before keeping his committment, or bolting for Awwbarn. As for the scores in the UF and UA game, its not like they were going to try and take it easy on UT anyway, so that won't make any difference what so ever. Meyer nor Saban have any more class than Kiffin or most other coaches. I will wait 2-3 years though before passing full judgement on Kiffin. Quote

The scores in the Florida and Bama games will have everything to do with it. Always does, always will, along with the Vandy score. Kiffin will be lucky to get two of the three years. If his wife is such a great recruiter, he might think of putting her to work on the recruits(LOL) and maybe tag a few headhunters for his next gig. Seriously, I wish the team well, just not in the state of Alabama. Quote

UT lacked so much fire and aggression in the past 6-7 years that I think its pretty refreshing to have someone so bold to call out the established 'powers that be' in the SEC. Only time will tell if he's successful- I seriously would caution even the most staunch UT fan about being too optimistic about next year. They are not even recruiting a quarterback this year, waiting to try to nail the top pick next year. It takes more than 1 season to turn around a whole football culture, one that had begun to accept mediocrity-- in fact built it into Fulmer's contracts. Automatic bonuses and contract extensions for 8-win seasons. Maybe in the 80's and 90's that would take you to the upper echelon of the SEC East, but not these days. UT became uncompetitive, too conservative, and were exploited by coaches like Meyer, Richt, et al because they knew Fulmer would be unlikely to venture out of his coaching comfort zone. Something had to change. There is an enormous amount of money that is funneled into UT football from benefactors, donors, and alumni to accept the level that UT football had slipped to. Kiffin may be brash, young, and frankly, may be out of his league among the big dogs of the SEC, but hey..... he's put together an impressive coaching staff, gotten some good recruits this year, and is definitely not backing down from anyone. I like it. Ultimately, he may be steamrolled by the gorillas that are UT football and the SEC, but we'll see. Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted February 14, 2009 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted February 14, 2009 I'm not a UT fan at all but I think the guy is pretty smart. I don't think any of these "mistakes" were accidental. Quote
