farmpond1 Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 My older brother would argue with a tree stump. There isn't anything I (or anyone else for that matter) can say that he can't find cause for dissention or contradiction. I can't begin to number the battles which would occur if I didn't (usually) choose to ignore it. What is it with people like this? Quote
Super User flechero Posted February 13, 2009 Super User Posted February 13, 2009 What is it with people like this? Why do you think they are always the problem? ;D Sorry, I figured that's what your brother would say! ...lol Quote

IDbasser Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 I know people like this. Very frustrating isn't it. Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted February 13, 2009 Super User Posted February 13, 2009 I have an uncle like that. He would stop while I was doing remodels and explain to me why I wouldn't want to have something the way I had it, because it wouldn't be how he would do it in his house. It's to the point where I have avoided any and all conversation with him for the last 15 years. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 13, 2009 Super User Posted February 13, 2009 I've been accused of this, but it isn't really the same thing. Whenever I come across something new to me, I need to "kick" it around for a awhile. I'm not arguing with the person, I'm arguing with the idea, wrestling it over to get a better understanding. I do know a few people that seem to get simple pleasure through constant contradiction, no matter whether they are right or wrong. I tend to avoid them. Quote
farmpond1 Posted February 13, 2009 Author Posted February 13, 2009 I can only guess that with my brother, at least, he thinks it's the "principle of the thing." Only he never learned it's wise to pick ones battles (by that, I don't mean "all of them.") Some things just aren't worth arguing over and sometimes, though I doubt he realizes it, sometimes he's wrong. It's a birth order thing, too. He apparently things he's older and wiser. Whatever! : Quote

Without turning this into a slamfest, you TOTALLY DID NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT I SAID. I work with people who may think they get things done while I'm figuring out the RIGHT WAY to do it. I got hired to fix their shotty work. Case in point, the project I'm working on right now was three years behind schedule. This was a team of ten. Two of us outside consultants were hired to replcae them. In six months time, the project was on schedule. The issue was the way the went about completing the work. Too much work filling out paperwork, not much work. Quote

ilovefooffur Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Ummm....tree stump, eh? When I was younger I used to bump into an object and it used to hurt so bad that I hit the thing and hurt myself even more. That's what arguing w/ a tree stump reminds me of. Quote
ejtaylor822 Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 I work with a guy like that - argue with a flippin' wall. He once sent out an email to a bunch of folks explaining some issues. I replied back and agreed with him citing some other work he had done on another project. Even paid him a compliment for the research he had performed. He immediately emailed back and started arguing with me on the information I was using to support his case! Data that he had put together and done! I explained that to him later when I saw him. His response "oh". No apology, no acknowledgement, nothing. Quote
