Bass Dude Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 I think everything this guy writes is truly amazing, from the stuff with The White Stripes to the stuff with The Racanteurs. He writes music with touches of every genre. He even wrote and produced an album with the country icon Lorretta Lynn. He has the respect of other country greats too, like Ricky Scaggs, and thats just a couple of the feathers in his cap. I am always anxious to see what he'll put out next. "I did what I did just to spite you, and I got what I got all despite you"---Jack White---Beautiful!! Quote
Super User Muddy Posted February 12, 2009 Super User Posted February 12, 2009 Genius: One of the most overused and trivialized word in our language today. That is my total and only input on this subject Quote
Bass Dude Posted February 12, 2009 Author Posted February 12, 2009 Muddy, I totally agree, and I don't use for just anybody. I think he is one of the few that this word really applies to. How about, he's a musical aficionado!!! Quote
Bass Dude Posted February 12, 2009 Author Posted February 12, 2009 Although the definition of genius is: Extraordinary intellectual and creative power. He does have extraordinary creative power!! Quote
Super User senile1 Posted February 12, 2009 Super User Posted February 12, 2009 Genius: One of the most overused and trivialized word in our language today. That is my total and only input on this subject I'm with Muddy on this one. I find that those who have reached a certain degree of competence beyond the intermediate level on an instrument, or in composing music, usually have a different viewpoint from the average listener about what constitutes musical genius, but that isn't set in stone. To each his own though. I guess I should add that I have heard a catchy song or two from Jack White's bands. I just don't find much in the major forms of popular music that rises to the level of genius for me. I intend no offense. It's just my opinion and the majority of popular music lovers would disagree with me. Quote
Bass Dude Posted February 12, 2009 Author Posted February 12, 2009 Senile- No offense taken, the beauty of art and music is just that-- for one person it's genius and for another it's garbage. I just wanted to post some props for some great music and a great musician. Quote
Daniel A. Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 I'm a Jack White fan, but I think "genius" is stretching it. Talented - yes. Once-in-a-Lifetime - no. Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted February 12, 2009 Super User Posted February 12, 2009 Gotta love the White Stripes. Iggy Thump Quote
Super User FishTank Posted February 13, 2009 Super User Posted February 13, 2009 At first, I thought the guy was a loser. But after I read lyrics to this song and heard it performed at my kid's song recital, I too thought he was genius. http://www.seeklyrics.com/lyrics/The-White-Stripes/We-re-Going-To-Be-Friends.html Quote
