Super User Muddy Posted February 11, 2009 Super User Posted February 11, 2009 The baseball players who are shown to have cheated will be akin to the Patriots cheating under Bill Belichick. Any accomplishment will be affixed with a big fat *! This could have been avoided had the Players Union disposed of these anonymous tests YEARS ago. Why keep such lethal evidence around? CONTROL. Now we get to endure this 103 more times with all the other positive tests out there. That is another excellent point! 8-) Quote

Now we get to endure this 103 more times with all the other positive tests out there. I read an ESPN article today explaining this. The founder of the Players Union said that there were only 8 days between the test results being finalized and subpoenas were issued by federal officials. So they didn't really have time to destroy the tests. But now that A-Rod's name has been leaked, the others need to be named as well. I know one thing, if I were one of those other 103 players, I could not possibly play while waiting for the axe to fall each day. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted February 12, 2009 Super User Posted February 12, 2009 I can just see it now MAURY POVICH Instead of the WHOSE YOUR DADDY tired shows he can now go to: WHOSE A ROIDER?????? 103 shows at least>>> and as I open the envelope with your results Quote

Big Tom Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 I just really never understood why Baseball players are starting to have such a high reputation for using illicit performance enhancing substances. Seriously, its baseball. Maybe I am wrong but it seems to me that there are much more physically demanding sports out there. I am not knocking baseball at all...its just the nature of the game. Quote

Super User SirSnookalot Posted February 12, 2009 Super User Posted February 12, 2009 I'm interested too. After all, most of them did go to at least a year of college, which means they had to get into college. They get into college because they are great athletes, grades are secondary. Most schools make sure athlete's maintain their playing eligibility if you know what I mean. I went to Univ of Mich and those athletes can't tie their own shoes. Kudos to Joe Paterno at Penn st., only I can think of that puts education above athletics. Has a very high graduation rate. You think these Pro fisherman are any smarter. I've watched Bass tours, redfish tours, walleye tours , sails and kings. I can't understand a word they're mumbling. Quote

Maybe I'm just naive, but I have a hard time believing that schools will make amends for a guy who can't read or write just because he has a good jumpshot. The big basketball powerhouses, Duke, UNC, Wake Forest et al, all have very good academic reputations, and they wouldn't risk that reputation just for a good athlete. Good athletes are a dime a dozen, they know they have to keep their grades up. It's possible that bigger schools like Michigan or Texas or Florida might let some athletes slide, but I also doubt that. I had a friend at LSU who worked as a private tutor for the football team, teaching math to guys like Jamarcus Russell and Doucet. He did say that these guys were dumb as a box of rocks, but they all made the grades without any "help." And he made good money. The athletics department wouldn't have paid him what he made if they could just "fix" the grades later on. Quote
deadeye32. Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 unfortunatly some of these guys get passed off as being special ed. If they have a "helper" or tudor doing all of the work, who is really going to say anything. As bad as it sounds, these coaches livelyhood depend on success on the field or court, and not in the classroom. If you are good enough to play, they will make it work most of the time. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 12, 2009 Super User Posted February 12, 2009 Good athletes are a dime a dozen, they know they have to keep their grades up. We must live on different planets. I'm not sure a Memphis Tiger basketball player has ever graduated, certainly none of the stars in recent years. Being a small college in a nothin' conference means recruiting guys from junior colleges that can't read, write or speak anything resembling The King's English! If "good athletes are a dime a dozen" we'll take a dollar's worth. ___________________________________ Back on topic... Quote

Does the name Dexter Manley ring a bell? He's just another example of guys who went to college and couldn't read or write beyond a 2nd grade level. He scored a 6 on the ACT test. And what's the quote?..... something like: "79% of all statistics are made up on the spot" ;D Always like that one!! Quote

Jake. Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 A-Roid is a loser. If you need drugs to play the game, you basically have lost all confidence in yourself and your ability. It ticked me off when people say "Oh he only used it for 2 years", what that makes it okay since it was only during that period? If you dope, your stats should have a big * next to them, so one day when a father brings his son to the Hall, he can point at him and say to his son, "You see this loser? Well, he cheated." lol A-Roid, man thats awesome. Dean you better get that patent right away That's the first time you've heard that? Every single Bo-Sox fan around here has been saying it non-stop. You can't understand a word they're mumbling? That's odd, I've watched a bunch of those same shows and I've never had any problem understanding them. The bass pros especially seem to be intelligent and well spoken. Quote
