I used to ski Taos all the time; they must have hit on hard times to open it up to snowboarding (spring 2008). No offense to boarders, but besides the fantastic trails, great chutes and legal out of bounds skiing (not to mention almost always perfect powder) that was one of my favorite things about TSV; ...not having to deal with the runs getting "groomed" by boards...oh well, i guess good things really do never last....

Good to see you are finally getting to see all of the great things NM has to offer though!! there is some great fishing up that way too!

ya the outta bounds boarding was awesome all the powdering carving through trees was SWEET. ya im glad they finally opened that up to us. i hear theres good trout fishing up there?

yeah lots of good trout, rainbows, browns, some pike and a ton of Kokanee in the right lakes...just as gorgeous in the summer as it is in the winter....that's why real estate is so expensive up there...

beautiful! its too bad they still allow skiers ;)

wow that makes me want to go home. all i have here in dubai is an indoor slope that i hit every month or so.

just ordered a  rome mod from sierrasnowboard on their 60% off sale that i wont be able to use until next season. check out their website if you havent been there before. best snowboard deals anywhere.

cheers

Oh man, seeing those pictures just gave me a serious craving to go skiing. Nice pics  :)

BTW, a friend of mine spent a winter in Taos, and he said it was just unbelievable. It's definitely a place I'd like to go someday.

Another gem in that part of NM/Colorado is what used to be known as Purgatory in Durango , Co. Apparently they have expanded and revamped alot of stuff up there (haven't been in years!) and I think renamed it Durango Ski Valley or something...

Oh yeah, and just over the border north of Taos is Wolfcreek,Co.; they get sick amounts of powder every year and it is supposed to be a snowboarding Mecca!

i love that there is some killer snowboarding here but when spring comes it kinda sucks because its a 2 hr drive to  bass fish. and the only trout they have is pay to fish lakes.

up in central and north fishing is great...problem is that you are kind of in the sparser part of the state for fishing;  I don't know of any places south of the Butte, and I rarely went there to fish...eastern central for bass and the like, and north for various trout and kokanee....
