Super User .dsaavedra. Posted February 10, 2009 Super User Posted February 10, 2009 mine doesn't like dry food, except freeze dried bloodworms. he will eat flakes reluctantly but will spit them out. my bluegill really likes to eat: earthworms frozen bloodworms freeze dried bloodworms and frozen tuna (this one's real convienent because i can open a can of tuna, drain it, stick it in a bag in the freezer and have lots of food that lasts for months.) my bluegill will jump out of the water over frozen tuna! i just take tweezers and break off little bite size pieces of the tuna and either stick it in the water or make him jump for food Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted February 10, 2009 Super User Posted February 10, 2009 oh yeah, i forgot about my bluegill that i have up in my room. he is only about 1" long, and i think that since i caught him so small, he hasn't really been accustomed to eating live food in the wild, so i quickly got him trained to eat flake food. Super User .dsaavedra. Posted February 10, 2009 Super User Posted February 10, 2009 add one more store-bought food to the list: shredded cheddar cheese! we just had tacos for dinner and i thought, "hmmm i wonder if my fish would eat cheese?" i figured they would because it is very easy to spot, and its got a soft texture, and sure enough my bluegill and pumpkinseed were all over that cheese! Other. Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Starting in the spring start a compost pile and you won't have to pay for food. I recommend composting with solider fly larvae, very nutritious for your bluegill, carry no diseases, and you can sell what ever you don't use. For store bought food you can always pick up canned tuna like Dave suggested. Just rinse it well to get off the sodium. Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 11, 2009 Super User Posted February 11, 2009 Hey Dave, Make sure that cheese does not give your fish gas. Quote
FordNFishinLover Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 I just keep a tub of worms in fridge. They keep for a longgggg time, and my gill loves em... Quote
