i was thinking about it...why not add a review section?

i know there is and isnt too much you can say about a rod , reel or tackle , but to the ones who do give a good in-depth review , im sure it will help many members.

maybe section it by price range (ie , >$100 <$100...) or catagory (rods , reels, tackle) or both.

set up a format to it?

how long youve owned it. what you have owned that you are comparing it to. how long youve been fishing with it.

i wont mind if it does or doesnt happen since im sure the thought has came up, but it was just something that crossed my mind.

thoughts?  :-/

i thought it was too.

rather than searching for some input on  specific equipment only to find a "it served me well" or "excellent 'x' for the price" , you can find a review. while i know there is quite a few on tackletour , it seems to be only be done by one person and doesnt get updated as often as new things are coming out.

A review section might be good, but I'm afraid it might turn into another Shimano vs. Pfleuger war.

Reviews at Tackle Tour are written by one editor, but the product is reviewed by three: Zander, Cal & Jip; Cal is the editor of the Enthusiast Tackle, Zander and Jip are the editors of Domestic tackle. Reviews and articles of interest are done twice a week so it does get updated frequently.

You may ask why don 't they do more reviews, the catch is that to do a review they purchase the tackle off the shelf, they 've never asked anybody to help them with the expenses, the money comes right out of their pocket, then they test the product for a period of several weeks and after that they write the review.

It's not a bad thought. I've brought it up before.  It would certainly be a place for someone to go to first when thinking about purchasing a specific reel or rod.

I like this idea.  No biased opinions just straight reviews from ordinary people.

I guess I should use the term "ordinary" loosely, after all, Burley is a member of this forum. ;)

I am not totally sold on the idea.

Everyone has an opinion and some are tainted.

For instance, I like Shimano reels.  Muddy likes Flooger.

So my Shimano posts will be skewed towards Shimano and Muddy towards Flooger with us both begin totally honest but not totally impartial or objective.

This is why Tackle Tour is so valuable to us.

And one more thought.  Let's say I have a product that I want to sell.  I can get some of the guys at my plant to register on this site and then start posting how great my products perform.

If this occurs, we will be getting tainted input which will direct us to purchase products that are not up to our standards.

Just my two cents.  :)

Hey Sam: I think the point is we would just review what we use. I do not use Shemano so I would never offer an opinion on one.

I am not sold on this either, I see too much trash talking other products instead of honest reviews by people who actually have used a product.

Ye of little faith..... ;)

I am right there with ya.  Nice idea though.  Always good to keep thinking.

well of course it would need to be moderated to keep things in check if they get out of hand , but i do see where you guys are coming from.

i dont think anyone would be sold on a product just because a member said it was the end all be all product , especially if they were known to be a die hard fan of that brand. i know i wouldnt.

and about tackletour , there are alot more producs out there that they dont have reviews for and probably never will since they do come out of the pocket for what they do have.

Maybe I'm a little slow, but when I post about fishing tackle (seldom) or lures (hardly ever) I post only about the products with which have had personal experience.  Why on earth would anyone trash a product that they have never used?  The big problem is that this site is so vast that everyone has an opinion.  There is no way to separate the wheat from the chaff.  I suppose (God forbid) that there could exist an almost infinite number of Polls (teenagers love polls) where everyone could vote on every conceivable product, but this site would be a pretty dismal place under those circumstances.

There may come a time when Glenn sets up a group of folks who will do unbiased testing much as TackleTour does.  In the meantime, I will log on to the TackleTour site on a frequent basis.

I don't see why this thread wouldn't work. The mod's have enough to do no need to have them have to design a thread for it. I'd say if you start a thread with a tittle that says something like " this is a review only thread no arguing or opinions aloud please " I bet the mods would police it and delete non review posts. The mods do a good job of listening and I bet if the thread continues appropriately that they would arrange for a special spot or a "sticky' or whatever.

As far as all the claims of pumping up xyz brand yes it could happen but come on lets not be so negative. I've seen some excellent reviews by a number of people. Some that come to mind are Raul, Fletch, Cart7 and many others. We are all grownups and need to decide for ourselves what to believe and what it is bogus. Doing a little research of the reviewers posts would probably answer most questionns of reliability. Whomever started the thread go ahead and post a review I'll volunteer to go next after you.

I think a review section would be great.

I've seen it done on other forums with success.

The key seems to be to have some sort of format for the review kind of like tackle tour does. Every review should be broken into sections

Price

Perfomance

appearance

ect
