Ive been deadlifting for awhile now and today at the gym on my first set i got a really bad pain in my pelvic region it almost felt like a burn? It did go away on my second set but it felt terrible. Anyone know any stretches to do before you deadlift?

I'm not a doctor, but burning pain is never good.

I typed in "immediate burning pain when deadlifting" and the thing that popped up the most was something about a possible hernia.

Make sure you keep an eye on it.

A couple things:

-Be sure that you are warming up properly before going heavy.

-Personally, I dont like to use a belt as I feel that it creates a false sense of security. Proper form and knowing your current limits will help tremendously.

-Don't "blow your gut out" when performing the lift.  Keep your midsection tight and make sure to BREATHE!!!

I like to warm up w/ some sumo squats before deadlifting.

Not a big fan of stretching pre-workout, sorry.

sorry to hear about your back .    i always warm up on my excercise bike or treadmill to get some blood flowing for a few minutes  and then stretch . its not good to stretch stiff cold muscles, im 48 so i take my time warming up i always start with light sets and work my way up to heavier weights . hope your back gets better.

Yea you should really take it easy especially when you're having pains in that region you definately don't want a hernia. Not sure of any stretches to do before deadlifts but if you get that pain again, cut the weights down and get checked out if it continues. Like the others say warm up to your heavy weights. Good luck

First place I would start is to check your form. Even though you've been deadlifting for awhile you may have been distracted or something. It's just a thought especially if it went away quickly and didn't happen again.

Yeah im starting to think it was just from going with too much weight, could have been a distraction that messed up my form  alot of cute ladies were walkin around the gym  ;D

how tall are you?

sometimes, the tall ones (6'4" here) have a tendency to lean forward too much on the first lift.

this can strain the lower verts, giving you all kinds of feelings you don't want.

im right around 5'10-5'11 , ill have to get someone to watch me and see if my form is ok
