Duma Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Anyone watching the UFC tonight? We represent Clay Guida and are ecstatic! Penn or St. Pierre? Quote
ejtaylor822 Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Yes, there are several of us. Getting ready for the GSP and BJ match. This should be good. I have no idea how this is going to go. I love Guida. He is one of my favs in all of MMA. Great match with Diaz. Glad he took him down. Machida is a beast. Give him a shot at the title. Quote
Duma Posted February 1, 2009 Author Posted February 1, 2009 Machida is a unique fighter and an awesome deceiving one as well ...also a great guy. He will get his title shot next fight, you're correct lol. Penn Pierre, flip a coin, they both are top notch talent....slight nod to Penn Quote
baboosicbass08 Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 I started training for MMA fighting but I've had to stop until this semester's over because of my school schedule I have more night classes this semester and between that and work at the most I'd be able to train one night a week so I'm putting it off til May when I can go everynight. As far as BJ and GSP it'll be good but i think im going with St. Pierre on this one, either way it'll be fun to watch Quote
Big Tom Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Huge MMA fan here. How about GSP?!?!? Wow. I was amazed the fight went like that. NOBODY has EVER dominated BJ Penn like that. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted February 1, 2009 Super User Posted February 1, 2009 Huge MMA fan here. How about GSP?!?!? Wow. I was amazed the fight went like that. NOBODY has EVER dominated BJ Penn like that. No kidding. That fight didn't go down like I thought it would. It seemed like BJ was a little too cautious right out of the gate, which enabled GSP to clinch and take him down. (BJ probably didnt think GSP could take him down like that once they clinched) GSP is on a whole different level than all the other welterweights. Speed, strength, ground game, stand-up, cardio, the dude's got it all. BJ's still my boy though. Quote
ejtaylor822 Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Agree, Big Tom. Amazing. GSP dominated from the opening bell. I didn't think BJ would get beat up, much less dominated. I thought it could go either way with either GSP punching out BJ, or, BJ using that flexibility to get a submission with an over agressive GSP. Had no idea how it would go that way and certainly didn't expect that finish. GSP is a class act. Duma, sorry I must have missed something. I thought there were several people ahead of Machida with a shot at Evans/title. I was saying, he (Machida) should be moved to the top of the list and let him have a shot at the title next fight. Didn't know it was coming. Very cool. Give my congrats to Guida, big fan of his. Love his intensity, energy and down to earth demeanor. Seems like one heckuva of a good guy - loved the belches between rounds and the full nelson. Eddie Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted February 1, 2009 Super User Posted February 1, 2009 Told yall GSP rules Quote
KevO Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 I'll have to say that those fights tonight were a bit on the boring side, other than the Machida fight. I was pulling for Penn but once GSP got him on the mat there wasn't much he could do. Quote
Big Tom Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Told yall GSP rules Yea but it took him a little longer than 30 seconds to win as well...lol. Got to give it to GSP, though. He is a monster. BJ is still my favorite fighter as well. I really hope being the best lightweight in the world will be enough for him. 170 pounds really hasn't been the greatest to him. I honestly hope he is alright. He took one of the worst beatings I have seen. I don't know how many times he was hit but it was a lot. You could tell after the second round that he did not want to be there. How about Machida too? That was spectacular and if I counted correctly he only got hit twice the entire fight. That is truly amazing. The UFC is full of talent right now. Its a good time to be a fan. Quote

Crabcakes Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 That was really impressive. I thought he'd win but not like that. BJ did almost no damage. That wresting was something else. BJ is not easy to take down. Lyoto Machida looked great. I dunno where he's headed next. For some reason they matched up rampage and keith jardine as a headliner for 96 or 97. Logically I think this means lyoto should get a title shot, but they might match him up with forrest or something and put the title fight on hold till summer. Quote
SuskyDude Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 What did you all think about Jon Jones? He's from my area, grew up across the river from me, so Im pullin for him. If he gets his cardio up and reigns in some of those flashy strikes (he's gonna get caught doing that eventually, just ask Arlovski), he's going to be a serious contender! Quote

Yeah, the cardio is aproblem, but he was throwing Bonar around like a ragdoll. Heck of a wrestler. Quote
thetr20one Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 I called the GSP fight on here last week. I also said he would embarras him. He did. The Guida fight was called wrong. He was agressive but not controlling Diaz. And he got his butt whooped bigtime in the 3rd. IMO. The Karo Parisyan fight was also called wrong. Again IMO. Over all it was a dull card. Quote
Big Tom Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 It wasn't as exciting a card as I though it should have been. I like Karo but I agree he should not have won last night. Quote
ejtaylor822 Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 Thetr20one, I watched the Guida fight again last night and I have to respectfully disagree. Diaz got some jabs in on Guida in the first round and was able to pull Guida in his guard. But, Guida controlled him from the top. Diaz got in a good knee and landed a couple of hard shots, but Guida controlled him the entire round. Second round Guida controlled beginning to end. Guida shrugged off an attempt at a hip throw from Diaz and kept Diaz in the fence almost the entire round except for the last minute or so when he took Diaz him down, controlled his guard and almost had him in a triangle at the bell. Round three was Diaz's best round, but Guida still controlled by clinching and taking Diaz to the ground mid-way. The beginning and end of the round Diaz got in some big shots but Guida I thought did a better job of controlling and defending him. It did look like to me that Diaz was gaining momentum as the match went along. Think it might have been different if the match had went longer. I do 100% agree on the Parisyan match. How he won that is beyond me. He had some moments of brilliance with his JJ, but, overall he was maintained and controlled almost the entire match and was definitely not the more aggressive. Quote
thetr20one Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 The reason I say that about the Guida fight is this. Diaz is a Jiu Jitsu fighter and even on his back or with his face against the cage. He mantained wrist control, which is key. I will say Diaz did nothing spactacular but he didn't let Guida punish him like he should have been able to from those positions. Off topic Jon Jones would had K.O.ed anybody who had a lesser chin than Bonnar. Stefan was impressive in they way he did not go down to shots that would have dropped most. I would bet Dana and the Fertittas were ticked this card was sooooo lame. If it were a Pride fight there would have been a whole lot of money taken away from the fighters for "non performance". Quote
Big Tom Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 As screwed up as it all was, I miss Pride quite a bit. Quote
