Super User Muddy Posted January 30, 2009 Super User Posted January 30, 2009 Hey Fellas; NO TAXPAYER DOLLARS!!!!!!!! LET THE OIL COMPANIES BAIL THEM OUT!! Since the oil companies need the auto industry to pick our pockets let them bail out the AUTO MAKERS got this idea as I had a cup of coffee and read this: EXXON 2008 Profit's Posted Exxon Mobil Corp. on Friday reported a profit of $45.2 billion for 2008, breaking its own record for a U.S. company, even as its fourth-quarter earnings fell 33 percent from a year ago. Tokyo Tony Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Or let them file for Chapter 11 so they can re-negotiate the union contracts and actually turn a profit :-? That's what should be done next time. There will be a next time. Quote

farmpond1 Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 I wonder. Do you suppose the oil companies really care whose auto's their fuel goes into? They'd likely be just as happy to fuel Japanese or Korean cars as American vehicles. Do you think companies who outsource really care about their neighbors losing their jobs? Don't think so. Quote
TopDog Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 How about the automakers also drop the price of vehicles 10-15k each. No reason to be paying 30K+ for a pickup truck IMO. Quote

HUGE discounts are currently available and the deals will get MUCH BETTER in the coming months. Their pain is your gain, but don't be too quick, these deals are going to keep improving as the industry depression grows deeper. 8-) Quote

Having mulled over what I wrote earlier (see above), I guess I'd like to amend what I said. You'll probably think I'm schizo: I hate to say it but too many Americans have been living too fat for too long. We want to earn huge paychecks so we can buy everything we want and to retire when we are fifty. In a perfect world, that'd be great but when there are countries who are hungry for business and willing to work twice as hard for a third the profit, it's tough to compete. I'm not saying we should expect to live dirt poor or work our fingers to the bone but we have to realize that we don't operate in isolation anymore. We are going to have to become more lean or we are going to starve completely. UAW had better make some concessions or they won't have any members to represent. Quote

If say GM goes belly up will they still have a warranty on a 09 truck I buy? I'm seriously thinking about buying a new one may/june but this is why I am skittish too. Quote

Companies are always looked down upon when they outsource. How about: stop taxing the crap out of them so it's possible to turn a decent profit in this country? Quote
