atx_newbie Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Anyone who's still awake should turn to ESPN2 and watch the live coverage of the men's semifinal from the Australian Open and cheer for our boy Roddick. He's the last American left, and he's got a chance to off on of the world's best. Federer has always had his number, but he's playing better this year than ever, so let's hope for the best... Go Andy! Quote
TexFishin Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Well unfortunately Roddick made some bad choices on shot selection and didnt capitalize on his openings. Tried to play Federers game instead of the power game he needed to. Now its up to Nadal more than likely to take down Federer and man do I hope he beats the snot out of Federer. Federer one of the greats? I dont think so. I dont think Federer is as good as everyone thinks, but instead think he just hasnt had anybody to challenge him. Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 What's not to like about Federer? He's (hopefully) about to tie Sampras for the most majors, and much like Sampras, he's a class act and a great role model. And by the way Tex, I agree that Federer may not be the greatest tennis player ever, but no one can say he's not one of the greats. It can be argued that he didn't have competition as tough as what Sampras dealt with, but no one can ever say for sure. I think it's kind of a cop-out argument. Federer is also past his prime age-wise for tennis. I really hope he gets a few more majors under his belt before he retires. I really doubt that Federer can beat Nadal though. Nadal has reached a whole new level with his game and I just can't see him losing any match right now. What do you guys think about Andy Murray? I really enjoyed watching him last year. He's one of the craftiest players I've seen. Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted January 29, 2009 Super User Posted January 29, 2009 Yes, I was one of the idiots that stayed up and watched the match. I'm dying to see Roddick win another major, but it doesn't seem likely right now. Roddick's forehand seems to be weak right now. He hasn't been able to do anything with it lately. Did anybody watch the Djokovic match? 140 degree temps and the roof still open? That's crazy. I loved how Novak was dying over in his chair while Roddick was pacing around in the direct sunlight unfazed. I like Federer over Rafa. Quote
atx_newbie Posted January 29, 2009 Author Posted January 29, 2009 Yeah, Roddick did not play aggressive enough. Seemed like he was trying too hard not to make mistakes. But when you're playing Fed, you have to do more than not make mistakes. Federer won't beat himself, you have to go after him on every point. I'm a Federer, in any match where he isn't playing Roddick. It's not often you get to see someone redefine his sport, and it is just amazing to watch greatness in the act. For the same reason when I watch golf, I'm a huge Phil Mickelson fan, but if he isn't in contention, I pull for Tiger. But seriously, can Roddick not put up just a little bit more of a challenge? It's getting depressing. He's one of the biggest underachievers in sports right now. Quote
TexFishin Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 I dont know if any of yall are watching the Nadal vs Verdasco match or not but you definitely should be. This is some of the best tennis Ive seen in a long time. Quote
