Calcutta Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Someone started a thread about man vs wild and people brought up survivorman. I thought that was a perfect place for a poll. who do you like better? Calcutta Quote
Other. Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Survivor man. You actually can learn how to survive versus watching a guy do stuff that is not necessary in survival situations that may kill the average person. Also Les is actually surviving where Bear has a camera crew and has been air lifted to sleep in a hotel. I still like bears show because it is entertaining. However I think Les is a better survivalist. Quote

Jake. Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I think Man vs. Wild is a little more entertaining because of all the crzay stunts he does. A lot of them are staged, but I still think they're pretty cool. I like Survivorman also because he shows you many different survival techniques. I think he does a better job of actually showing you how to survive in those situations. Quote
thetr20one Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Even though Bear has a camera crew it says in the disclaimer that they are prepared for the climate and Bear is not. I mean come on he drank his own pee man!!! Bear teaches survival and ways to find civilization, basically rescueing himsef most times. Survivor man teaches survive until you are found methods more. Bears set up demonstraitions are also aknowleged in the disclaimer. He go out of his way to teach. And he is just light years more entertaining than survivor man. By the way Suvivorman carries a SPOT gps locater. Check out by looking at the new bas pro catalog. Quote
fathom Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 i voted jessica alba. she aint much of a survivalist but, after a week of being stranded with her, i ain't coming back alive anyways. Quote

guitarkid Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 neither they are both dumb as a brick but if I had to choose one, survivorman. -gk Quote
GLADES Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 I like both shows. Survivorman- Les usually does a good job on how to set up a camp improvising to create a shelter, start a fire, and natural first aid. He usually has trouble catching meat - I think he is a vegan. Jugling the cameras while doing all this alone definately is more tiring. Man v Wild - Bear subjects himself to harsher invironments and does a better job living off the land. He definately will eat or drink anything that wont kill him. He tends to stay on the move and although he has help, he take more risks to demonstrate his point. That one episode were he was stung by the bee in the face, then later killed a snake, ate the meat, stripped off the skin and urinated into the skin like a canteen. Man that is hard core. I voted for Man vs Wild Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted January 23, 2009 Super User Posted January 23, 2009 I admire Stroud's skills not only as a survival expert, but also as a filmmaker. Bear is just another obnoxious Brit. Quote
jack1 Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Bear's show is way more entertaining. Bear's drinking fluids from elephant crap, while Les is eating roots. In the end, I'll have to give it to Les. Quote

However I think Les is a better survivalist. yup. I watch Bear's show to see all the "I don't understand?!?" athletic and dietary stuff that he does. I watch Les because he--like 98% of people--can't climb vertical rock walls, shimmy up trees that hang 50 feet over alligator infested canals, drink liquid elephant poo or battle venomous snakes for the fun of it...so it's much more informative. Calcutta Posted January 23, 2009 Author Posted January 23, 2009 Bears show is quite entertaining but I always get to a point in the show where I A lost snowmobiler once made it 5 days with no supplies, back to civilization and he credited les stroud and his show for the knowledge. Im just wondering when some day , someone gets killed following bears "entertaing" advice. Quote
Pitchinkid Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Bear still has a show. Les's got cancelled. Enough said. I guess survivor man couldnt "survive" the ratings.LOL BURN Quote
bigfruits Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 cancelled? i thought he quit. they are both great shows. of course some of the stuff bear does you wouldnt do unless there was no other choice. if you are watching the show not for entertainment but to learn in case you get stranded, i hope youre smart enough to know when jumping off a cliff into an unknown depth of water might not be a good idea. Avalonjohn44 Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 I like Man vs Wild much more. Both shows give great advice and lessons, but I prefer Bear over Les. I never saw survivor man showing someone how to get out of a frozen lake or river, and then tell us what to do afterward like Bear has done several times. It is pretty cool that he was in the British Special Forces. Survivor man seems to plod through an episode, not finding much to eat, and is starving by the end of an episode. Bear always manages to find 'food'. Plus, survivor man gets tedious because he has to keep going back and getting his cameras. Quote
Hooked_On_Bass Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Survivorman -> Knowledge Man Vs. Wild -> Entertainment Definitely Survivorman if I had to choose. Quote
Eddie Munster Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 I've learned a lot of things watching Les: How to start a fire with a battery (buddy of mine knew this already but not on purpose. ;D) When surviving in cold weather, avoid sweating at all costs. Quick road to hypothermia. Different things to eat/ways to catch it/prepare it. Utilize all of your surroundings/equipment. Numerous other things. I've learned one thing from Bear: Guy's a complete idiot who will most likely cause someone to die. Bear (as others have pointed out) shows the viewers how to take a lot of unnecessary risks (jumping into freezing water to save yourself from walking, eating uncooked stuff, etc) and really only has a show cuz the ladies find him good lookin. Personally, I find Bear's show insulting if you have even half a brain. Staged scenes, cheating (life preserver hidden under sweatshirt in river) and his moronic overdramistization of some things is outright asinine. . Survivorman started in June 2005 and Man vs Wild started in Nov 2006. Bear is just a knock off. Quote
Bad to da Bass Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 I like them both equally. If you want to know how to survive I would watch survivorman. But if you just want to watch something entertaining I would perfer Man Vs. Wild. Quote
SMSRTC Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 I prefer Survivorman also. I like the reality of it mostly. I was watching an arctic survival one today in which he actually took some fishing gear with him to try to catch char. He went days with no luck, then had a stretch where he caught four nice fish. You could see the excitement and joy every time he hooked one. According to Wikipedia, he stopped doing it because of the physical toll. Can you imagine the extra work of trying to get those long distance shots of him traveling, then having to hike/paddle/swim/climb back to get the camera gear when you are already weak and exhausted from lack of food and sleep? Ky_Lake_Dude Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 man vs wild is fake. Survivorman real. Quote
Calcutta Posted January 26, 2009 Author Posted January 26, 2009 According to Lesstroudonline, Les is not retiring. He mentioned his last ever survivorman on the papa new guinea show when he ment to say last of the season. Quote
