Fisher of Men Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 162 games, lots of days at the ballpark, what more could a poor boy do? This poor boy's not gonna do anything unless my Rangers can get some pitching. I'm going to start going to the minor league park this year. It's really no different than attending a Rangers' game. :'( Quote
Super User Muddy Posted January 20, 2009 Author Super User Posted January 20, 2009 Minor league ball rocks, I like going to Coney Island to see the Met's minor league team the Cyclones! Quote
Eddie Munster Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Good deal Muddy. However, to go to a Braves game with parking, refreshments, gas and tickets it would cost about $100.00+ dollars. I could feed the baitmonkey alot and listen to the game while I fish for those 4 hours. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted January 20, 2009 Author Super User Posted January 20, 2009 Mr.Munster, I feeling that completley. IF Elaine didn't get seats from her company Citi Park ( Shea's Replacement) would cost as much as a weekend in the Bahama's > Quote
ejtaylor822 Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 I love the superbowl - and all sports for that matter - but do look forward to spring training camps opening. Just bought our Durham bulls packages last week. Wifey and I use to get these every year until our little girl came along. She is now 4 and this will be our first season in that many years since we have been regular attenders. Made a few games last year with her and she loves it - of course she is more interested in popcorn than anything else. Looking forward to it. Quote

She quit and I cried.............for a month. :'( Quote

Super User fishinfiend Posted January 20, 2009 Super User Posted January 20, 2009 Once the Superbowl is over, the fishing should be on fire here in just a matter of weeks. 8-) Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 20, 2009 Super User Posted January 20, 2009 If you want to see baseball played with the enthusiasm you remember from days gone by, make the trip to Omaha: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/College_World_Series 8-) Quote

daviscw Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Oh man, I love to hear the "ping" of those metal bats! Quote
Super User Muddy Posted January 20, 2009 Author Super User Posted January 20, 2009 Metal bats suck, it is why I no longer watch Little League,High School and College Ball. A bad break from tradtion, I do not care about the reasons, not one of them is good enough. College Basketball blows the NBA out of the water College Baseball, if you want to call it that is no match for a Minor or Major League game. very evil Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 20, 2009 Super User Posted January 20, 2009 College Baseball, if you want to call it that is no match for a Minor or Major League game. Yeah, hustle and desire are no substitute for money...The worst part is big markets can't buy a championship. I hate it, too. : Quote
Super User Muddy Posted January 20, 2009 Author Super User Posted January 20, 2009 Aluminum Bats Even the maker of the great Slugger is making freaking aluminum bats now. Increased Batting Averages Make inside pitching practically worthless Change offense Change defense, try and get a good jump in the outfield off a ping Go so far from the tradition of the game it is sickening ASH, good Tennessee ASH is what a bat should be made of. Super User roadwarrior Posted January 20, 2009 Super User Posted January 20, 2009 I was hoping the Majors would go to metal at the turn of the millennium so the game wouldn't be so boring. It never occurred to me than instead, the entire country would build new stadiums and bring in the fences. : Quote
Super User Muddy Posted January 20, 2009 Author Super User Posted January 20, 2009 I am not saying the owners and their puppeteer owner/commish are doing things right Kent. You know I do not post in Football or hockey or really any sports thread other than Baseball and some College hoops I was raised by a Father and 2 uncles who loved the game. They took me to Ebbets field, the Polo Grounds and i was at the first game at Shea. My Uncle was a lifetime box owner. I grew up with this game. I love one nothing pitching duels, more than 15 to 11 games There is more going on per pitch ( infield and out field positioning, depending on what the hitter wants to do and what the pitcher is tossing to him) They took away the mound, they lowered the mound in a time when Kofax,Ford and Bob Gibson where shutitting hitters down The took away the inside pitch. Can you imagine you can get tossed out today for pitching too close without hitting a batter. You want to take the sweet spot from a hitter, it means backing them up frequently, and they took that away They changed the ball to give it more zip, by changing how its wrapped They let steroid filled monsters, with bodies not made for baseball part of the game. Only to see those who love the game go to congress for help, and now we may never See Maguire in the hall and Bonds and Clemens in Orange Uniforms, as well it should be Despite all this the basic game struggles to survive. and now you want to see metal bats, that would be the cherry on the death heap of the game Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 20, 2009 Super User Posted January 20, 2009 Hey Dominick! You know I'm just bustin' your chops...I know how much you love the game...I used to, too. 8-) Quote
Super User Muddy Posted January 20, 2009 Author Super User Posted January 20, 2009 I know that, but its like religion to me. If you can let me bust on your choice of equipment and watch you defend it, then I get my turn on the other side of the fence. If I am gonna bust them I gotta be willing to get mine busted Dominick Quote
