Super User firefightn15 Posted January 19, 2009 Super User Posted January 19, 2009 Not really a Pittsburg fan, but I think they took one dry on that challenge. Next play, interference? :-/ Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted January 19, 2009 Super User Posted January 19, 2009 A couple years ago that would have been a catch but since they have changed the rule that you have to keep control when you hit the ground the reversal was correct by rule.... Quote
SMSRTC Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 What exactly is the rule? I know they say the ground can cause an incomplete pass, but I assumed that meant if the receiver got tackled immediatly after a good catch. At what point is the rule no longer in effect? After two steps? After two seconds? I tried googling for it, but all I could find was the CFL rule. That one said that if the receiver jumped for the ball and caught and controlled it, but lost it when hitting the ground, it was incomplete. Also that if the receiver got hit and taken to the ground immediately, and lost the ball, it was imcomplete. Both of those make sense. It seemed like the receiver was able to move forward after the catch, even though the defender got there immediatly. I could be wrong since I only saw the replays. And why the hell is the rulebook on the official NFL page not up-to-date? Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted January 19, 2009 Author Super User Posted January 19, 2009 I looked like he had possession when he hit the ground, and the ground couldn't cause a fumble. But I guess it don't matter now. Quote

The ground cannot cause a fumble but it can cause an incompletion in the NFL. The receiver must maintain possession through ground contact for it to be a completion. Quote
