Super User burleytog Posted January 19, 2009 Super User Posted January 19, 2009 I had planned on sitting on my non-existant rear end today and watch football. I spent it doing this instead. There used to be a vertical pipe where the new work is. Outside spigot froze Friday or Saturday, got warm enough today to thaw. Made three trips to Lowe's, froze my hands to the bone and got quite muddy. Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted January 19, 2009 Super User Posted January 19, 2009 I helped my buddy dig the hole to do that a few weeks ago when it was in the single digits. Yeah ..... it sucked. I was not there for the repair part which I bet sucked even more however. Quote

Super User burleytog Posted January 19, 2009 Author Super User Posted January 19, 2009 How far down are ur pipes??? 18 in they shouldnt freeze Approx. 28". That pipe didn't freeze. The pipe connected to it that went above ground is the one that froze. Even though it was covered. Quote

I have been quite regular since you sent that stuff. That said, I'm currently having my worst gout attack since the great beer binge of 9/09. Yes, coffee is one of my triggers. :'( Quote

The pipe connected to it that went above ground is the one that froze. Even though it was covered. That's what happened to mine. All pipes were buried and those under the house were well insulated. Where it came up out of the ground and into the house is where I got it. Right at the valve. I wrapped everything but left the valve handle exposed so wouldn't have to reach through the insulation to turn it off/on. Well that little bit of exposure was enough to freeze and bust it. As I learned the hard way, much easier to deal with scrathy insulation once in a while than a busted pipe once. Quote
