And yes, that is a dog bone. I am sick of sneeking into my house at night, trying not to wake anyone and stepping on the bulldog's dam toys. That one being the most painful to step on hd to be shipped away where she will never find it.

Thanks for the idea. When I send something out, a dog toy goes with it. I'm tired of stepping on them, too.

Well? Coffee milk is the bomb. (but don't make it too strong, gets nasty)

So have you ever had Johnny cakes????

This might be different stuff, it is manufactured in a mill in Kenyon, RI, an area called Usquapaugh. It is a stone ground corn meal. They make only 2 products, the clam cake mix above and the johnny cake mix below.

Johnny cakes look like potato pancakes but they get a butter and maple syrup treatment just like a regular pancake.  The big debate (and you better ask if you order them in a RI diner) is Thick or thin?

Thin to win.

Dummy me misread Kenyon for Kenya.   ::)

After looking at different recipes they seem to be different from what I was thinking, but a similar principal.  Heres a Jamacian Johny Cake recipe:

Johnny Cakes

Published Mar 14, 2004

INGREDIENTS :

4 cups flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

1.5 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup butter or margarine

1/2 cup cold water

1 cup vegetable oil for frying

Shop Now for Jamaican recipe ingredients & seasoning in our online store.

METHOD:

Sift the flour, baking powder, and salt together into a large mixing bowl. Cut in the butter or margarine until the mixture forms marble-sized doughballs. Add the water 1 teaspoon at a time, just enough to bring the dough together with a firm consistency.

Heat oil in a heavy bottomed frying pot over medium-low heat until hot

Break off pieces and Form the dough into slightly flattened biscuits, about 2 inches across. On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough well, for about five minutes.

Fry the Johnny Cakes, uncrowded, in the hot oil only until they become golden--(Approx about 2- 3 minutes)

Remove the Johnny cakes with and drain on a paper towels to absorb the extra vegetable oil.

Johnny cakes are usually served for breakfast with Bully Beef or Ackees. (Serves 6)

Seems as though the Caribbean style is flour, and the RI style is corn meal?  Also the caribbean is always deep fried I believe.

Yup, similar, but these are the 2 differences.

these are done in a skillet or large frying pan (375) and the base is stone ground corn meal....VERY gritty (in a good way)

Ever have a corn muffin? Like from Dunkin Donuts? that kind of grit.

Nothing better than the crispy butter soaked edges,...yum.   Now I want Johnny cakes, I have a 2 lb bag in the fridge. Another side note,...the product does not expire. Refrigerate it and it will live longer than you.

Y'all done went and made me hungry reading about these Johnny Cakes.

When I think of Johnny Cakes, I think of an episode from the Sopranos similar to Broke Back Mountain.

Coffee milk is quite nice.

In my house we buy COffe Suryp by the half gallon at Sam's Club! Its a must. Good old George has it at the Wein O Rama so you can order it with your 7 all the way! Been going there since before I could walk. My parents store was right next to it and opened in 1961 the same year as Wein O. Remember when they were a quater. Dang.

As for the coffee syrup, this could quickly become an addiction. This bottle may last till the end of the week.

On another note, I may have to run to the grocery store this afternoon and get some  canned clams.
