BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted December 30, 2008 BassResource.com Administrator Posted December 30, 2008 I've had many members report "problems with the forums" recently, and after a lot of sleuthing..... every single one of them was resolved by clearing their cache. One of them "thought" they had done it several times, only to find out they never did it right. Here's how to do it: IE6: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie6/using/howto/customizing/clearcache.mspx IE7 http://www.viscott.com/esupport/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=51&nav=0 Firefox http://www.ehow.com/video_2320708_clear-cache-mozilla-firefox.html Now restart your computer. Please clear your cache before reporting any "issues" to me. And then restart your computer. Thanks! Yes, this solves the "banning" issue some people are seeing when they try to post or PM a message. BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted January 1, 2009 Author BassResource.com Administrator Posted January 1, 2009 Also, if the dropdown menus "won't go away", then you're using Firefox. This is a known bug in Firefox. There's nothing wrong with the site. ------------- Also, if you're not getting e-mail notifications, please check your settings in your profile as they may have been changed during the upgrade. Thanks! Glenn Quote
tkoglin Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 Good Advice... FireFox users can also set their browser to do this automatically everytime they close FireFox. Go to: Tools/Options/Privacy and then check the box to "Always Clear My Private Data When I Close FireFox". Click the settings box to the right to select what you want FireFox to clear. moby bass Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 I just cleared mine and it took away my username and showed me as a guest. I had to go hunt up the password and log back in. Quote
moby bass Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 I was kind of following the instruction video in the Firefox link above. It checked cookies. I didn't clear my history though because I know from experience that wipes out the link in the favorites menu if I've recently been on the site. Been there, done that. ;D Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted January 4, 2009 Super User Posted January 4, 2009 Funny thing. I read the clear your cache post a few days ago, and I did just that. I used disk cleanup which I believe does the same thing. A few days later, I got the banned message, and wondered what I had said. Duhhhh, I did not link that with the cache problem. Fortunately I have Low Budget Hooker's email address. Thank goodness for that. I remember reading in the rules, no warning, no discussion, you're gone. I was pretty much resigned to my fate. Once the forum does not recognize you, there's no way to contact anyone through the forum. I'm wondering if it's possible to send an email to members regarding the banning/cache problem. Some might give up if they get that message. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted January 4, 2009 Author BassResource.com Administrator Posted January 4, 2009 That particular issue is not widespread. There's been less than 4 confirmed cases in the last month. Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted January 4, 2009 Super User Posted January 4, 2009 OK, question for the computerally challenged : I'm running Vista. How do I know if I'm IE6 or IE7 ? Quote
Super User firefightn15 Posted January 4, 2009 Super User Posted January 4, 2009 click start, go to control panel and open. Click add/remove programs and open. Scroll thru list of programs, and when you get to internet explorer it should show you which version you are running. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted January 5, 2009 Super User Posted January 5, 2009 Got an arse chewing from the wife. Thanks Glenn, wife just chewed me out for clearing all the site history. Probably had one coming anyway, been a few days. Quote
fish-fighting-illini Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 click start, go to control panel and open. Click add/remove programs and open. Scroll thru list of programs, and when you get to internet explorer it should show you which version you are running. No offense fire but you really shouldn't have a novice check it this way. One wrong click and a program is gone. Bilge when you have your IE browser open just click on "help" then on "about" and the verion is plain to see. For reference many many programs ( of all kinds ) will show you their version this way. Quote
